Where would you rank it as an achievement if Rigo was to win with little or no controversy? When has it happened before that someone has gone up two (one classical) weight classes to beat a p4p fighter, and also giving up as much weight as Rigo will give up (about 10-15 lbs)? Ps. before Duran gets a mention, it should be said that he wasn't actually giving up any weight in the ring against Leonard.
It'd be an ATG caliber win, because it's bulletproof. Loma is a P4P talent and force, in his prime, at 130. Rigo's not only smaller, he's 8 years older. And not like a 33 year old fighting a 25 year old. Dude's 37. That's old by any standard, but ancient in the lower weights.
It's an open secret that Rigo is in his 40s. If he overcame the size and age disparity and somehow won this....man. I'd be kicking myself that fate decided we never got to see a 27 year old Rigo in the pro game.
Well, their highest recorded weights are 128 and 138 to my knowledge, so I doubt it will be more than 10 in their actual fight. Still, I think just beating Lomachnko in general would be a monumental achievement. I can't think of many recent examples: Pacman vs Oscar (a stretch but still a 10 pound jump for Pacquiao) Hopkins vs Tarver That might be about it in last two decades.
Another thing I'm a bit unsure about is how they will do against another southpaw, since both have styles built especially for orthodox fighters. I have seen Loma-Russel, so for him I have some sort of picture. But only seen Rigo against orthodox fighters.
That is a good point. Rigondeux excellent timing may allow him to catch Lomanchenko coming in and Rigondeux does hit hard. I think Lomachenko may negate this with his movement.
His best move is only possible against orthodox fighters, though. By using his lead hand to occupy the opponent's lead hand and then move around it. If he tries that move against Rigo (moving to the right) he will caught by his left and probably laid out.
Very hard to predict this one. But my best guess would probably be Loma by close decision due to his aggressiveness and activity. Since I think these things generally get too much emphasis in the scoring I might not agree. A flash KD could be the decider. Could be a bit like Kova-Ward I, but the aggressive fighter winning the decision this time and the defensive fighter the one that fades a bit in the later rds (due to his age).
It has a Gamboa-Crawford feel to it, although the styles don't match it. Lomachenko needs to set the pace early to grind down Rigo, otherwise it will be close on the cards. Lomachenko's flamboyance, athletic prowess and often over exaggerated movement may sway the judges. I hope I'm wrong but it would appear Rigo needs to win 8 clear rounds, on the flip side Lomachenko only needs to win a few clear rounds and half a dozen close rounds to win.
A great matchup between fighters who won Olympic gold twice. The fight will have three acts. Act one: Feeling out process. Act Two: Lomo's pressure and work rate will force Ridondeaux to change his tactics, as he won't like the exchanges or body shots and will try to safely out point and counter Lomo Act three: Ridondeaux either gives up his best chance to win by being too defensive and goes the distance, losing on points or gets grinded down, testing his mental and physical toughness until the TKO / KO happens. Lomachencko can suck a man's will to box. What I hope: 1 ) A fight that goes over five rounds. I've seen too many fast and skilled Cubans, who for whatever reason don't take a good punch. There is a lot of skills to be shown here; I hope to see each man has a chance to display them. 2 ) Competent judging! Please no GGG vs. Canelo like judging. When the best meet for legacies, the officials needs to be qualified in their jobs. I don't want to see any fighter winning a 10-9 where punch stats show one an was out-landed by five punches or more and didn't land anything significant to make up for it in the round. 3 ) The very predictable threads that the loser was not that good/overrated. My Prediction: Lomachencko via 10th round TKO.
This is the first time actually seeing footage of them....I did pick Loma by 10th round stoppage in the general section yesrerday,so I'll stick by it.
