Rigo is a massive banger. So why is his aggression pathetic?

Because he is not a banger, in the traditional sense, his timing and technique are incredible, his power is ok but mix those 3 ingridients together and you get a lot of power, if he was more offensive his timing and technique wouldnt be as good meaning his punches wouldn't do that much damage

Cuban style is defensive, Rigo has a weak chin, he tries to protect it...............in 18 fights Rigo has 11 KO's against 122 lbs. fighters, one was a no contest because Rigo cheated, that was his last fight.............Rigo is a very dirty fighter, he will cheat, in fact, Tim Bradley warned Lomachenko today to watch out for Rigo's dirty fighting. Lomachenko said that he learned dirty fighting from Salido.................Lomachenko should watch SOB Ward cheat, SOB makes Salido look like Jesus Christ!

When did Rigo turned into Tommy Hearns? Rigo hits hard but he doesn't have one punch power. He lands lots of flush punches and doesn't have any highlight reel KOs.

he preserves lots of energy in his fights because he has a low output which means he can load up with full power. he is so sharp with it that his opponents output decreases in fear of getting tagged so we are left with a pretty boring low energy fight with both fighters waving their lead hand in front of each others face waiting for the counter which rigo is master at.
he wont be able to do this against loma. rigo is going to have to move non stop in this fight which he will not be used to, then add that extra few lbs of weight he's not used to carrying....i can't see rigo going the distance

To a lot of boxing fans, choosing to fight your opponent at a distance instead of standing and trading like an idiot is "running".

No, the idea is to completely destroy your opponent. That is the definition of a pure victory. To hit him often and hard so that he cannot continue the fight. It's boxing, not tap dancing.

It's a vicious sport and "purist" fans can say Rigo is a pure boxer until they are blue in the face and they will still be wrong. A pure boxer is Roberto Duran. Somebody who goes in and tries to beat the ever living soul out of the other guy with skill and aggression.

He's not punching that hard, but he's clearly a way above average puncher. Like a JMM, that guy could very obviously punch extremely hard. Was he a Hamed or Hearns type of puncher, no, but they punch very hard.

You show your ignorance of Rigondeaux if you say he's like Lara. Lara I agree, is god awful to watch. High guard, use his legs, jab, cross, pity pat very vanilla, extremely boring to watch. He doesn't have a fraction of the power that Rigondeaux has. Rigondeaux has a frugal output, because he is always the smaller man in the ring. Why be a face first brawler, if you have the athleticism, and skill to hit and not get hit.

I think of a pure boxer as an outboxer; someone who prefers to fight at a distance.

Not me. I think of somebody who employs skill and athleticism to beat their opponent so badly that they cannot continue. Loma is a much more "pure" boxer than Rigo.

One wants to coast by and leave it to the judges. Another wants to take risks and not leave it to chance.

ive never understood why the ali foreman fight is held in such high regard. it was lacking any real 'boxing'. and there is such a thing called running. lara is terrible for it.
there are extremes with both styles which to my mind is mindless head first swinging, and the jab and move 3 punches a round bollocks.
imagine Lomachenko took the conscious decision to just fight off the back foot and dance around winning every round with pot shots and counters. he has the ability to literally not get hit if he wanted.
would you be as entertained though?

Actually the Ali Foreman fight were an incredible display of skill by Ali. It's actually been broken down before. I've seen it on YouTube. Ali knew what he was doing. I guarantee you that 99.99% of all human boxers who ever lived would fail miserably using that strategy. To let a prime George Foreman corner you to the ropes and not get hammered flush and fall almost immediately is not easy.
