Holyfield would be almost 200lbs anyway if he didnt have to dry out to make 190.
His workrate at that time was immense, he was much more skilled and versatile. Bonavena wouldnt bring anything to the table that Holyfield couldnt deal with.

Jimmy Ellis, a good boxer, at 194 pounds knocked Bonavena down twice and beat him decisively. Holyfield was an excellent boxer, he could easily out box Bonavena. If, Holyfield decided to brawl as he often did, he'd still have the advantage in speed and boxing skills. Holyfield used angles on the inside and threw nice short punches. Holyfield should win convincingly whether he boxed or brawled, either a lopsided decision or stoppage.

Bonavena would make Holyfield look bad regardless. Could go either way.

Made Frazier and Ali look bad.

Frazier and Ali were both better than a 190 lb Holyfield.

I'll take holyfield on the basis that he was an all time great rather than an average contender whose best win was over either a shot Folley or maybe leotis marti n.

Bonavena might win a couple of close rounds but that's about it. The Real Deal by UD.

Yeah, there persists an unrealistic underestimation and down grading of Ringo Bonavena. He sure as hell did make both Ali and Frazier look bad. I think he would have given Holyfield hell personally.

I rarely say this but in this instance it's appropriate.

Ok, who did oscar bonavena ever beat which makes you think he could beat a heavyweight who appears in lots of people's top 10 lists? What was his signature win?

Making people "look bad" doesn't mean ****. Marion Wilson made lots of people look bad and barely won a fight.

You haven't the slightest clue on how to gauge a fighter.

Right. I gauge them on their ability to win fights. Based on this criteria, bonavena comes out rather poorly. Based on his ability to impress you, though, he comes out rather well.
