I think what really made Rigo give up was the fact that he realized the ref wasn't going to let him to continually foul in the fight. Once he realized he couldn't do that, he quit. Clinching is a FOUL, it is not BOXING. It can be done every once in a while, but if it is a CENTERPIECE of your gameplan, then it isn't boxing. Why should clinching be treated with so much leniency? You wouldn't allow a boxer to intentionally headbutt, throw elbow strikes, kick shins etc. But some of you seem OK with fighters doing low blows and clinching and that isn't OK. You know who you are and what you stand for. Just admit it.
Clearly, you don't understand boxing. Only the "real fans" understand it. This wasn't two knuckle dragging apes swinging wildly at each other, to please their imbecile drooling redneck fans. This was two all time great elite masters demonstrating their craft. The "purists" who understand boxing will appreciate this fight for decades. And apparently the "purest" form of boxing is wrestling.
Once I seen him start getting frustrated I figured he was going to lose. Rigo is a at master frustrating his opponents but has never had to dig too deep for a victory until last night. It was all those years of regimented Cuban training that really got him because he had ZERO plan B. Lomachenko can ****ing box and has seen every amateur style after 400 fights. Rigodeaux should have planned more.
I personally felt that Rigo was setup to lose. Moving up two weight classes is tough. Loma isn't that big of a 130lber, but he is still bigger than Rigo. I think Loma still could have won at 126lbs though. Now if Rigo had the ref that Salido had... Then we could have had a different story...
Lomachenko has not been at 130 for long, he came up from 126, he wants to eventually move up to 135, so he could not afford to go back down.....................Rigo looks has a head like a turtle, he went into his shell last night! Lomachenko did not want that fight, Rigo did, he kept calling Lomachenko names, Rigo fans wanted that fight, so finally Lomachenko fought Rigo, he said that he would not get credit for beating Rigo...................but that's what the fans wanted. All I heard and read was how Rigo was going to easily knock Lomachenko out, on the boards and esp. on YouTube! So much hate for Lomachenko!
Oh really? I'm not disagreeing, I am just wonderingwhat was your opinion on Wladimir Klinchko? Watching the Peter and Povetkin fights I though he wanted to marry those guys.
Wow. And he even made that into a little rap also. “Rigo break jaws doe! Loma gonna get exposed!” “Loma better not do that pitty pat **** with Rigo doe.” Now those same types of idiots are saying “Bob needs to put Loma in with REAL threats.” Lol These ‘people’ actually think we are as dumb as them and don’t remember the **** they talked before this fight. Too funny. #Never4get is right.
Yup if ward kovalev had a proper referee who cracked down on holding and ducking below the waist we would have seen a different fight. Rigo was holding and ducking ridiculously low. Some idiots were applauding rigo as he was dpdging punches by ducking illegally low, your opponent basically has no legal part of your head to hit when you duck that low and they were then giving out that loma hit him in the back of the head. Referees need to clamp down on that more All some boxers will need to do is duck down to knee height and they will be untouchable and the defensive geniuses of the age according some people
That tweet coupled with his performance is pretty much a perfect nomination for this thread, given the absurdist element; https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/lets-play-jump-the-shark-the-boxing-edition-which-match-did-you-realize-it-was-over.597913/ Rigo's time has passed, though his gloves may not yet be hung. Hope he leaves the sport with some dough and has a good life, seems like a decent enough fellow.
I don't know enough about him as a man to make that kind of judgement. Only he knows his reasons for leaving Cuba and his family to face a hate mob essentially excommunicated from society. Maybe it was for them to get a better life, maybe he abandoned them for a better life for himself. I'll never know.
Consistency among officials is a major problem. Rigo fights the same way every time, no problem, and then one day he is getting warned every 5 seconds and deducted pts. There's no ****ing consistency. How is Rigo supposed to understand all of a sudden that what has been allowed by refs since forever including his whole career is all of a sudden not allowed in the biggest fight of his career? I feel for the guy. Loma was really selling the holding hard and the official was buying every bit of it.
