Why don't the likes of Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder have the Mike Tyson fear factor?

Both these guys are undefeated, both these guys are big punchers with very impressive KO records, but somehow they just don't appear invincible at all, they don't scare the opponents or the boxing public in general, you never get the impression or the vibe from these 2 guys that when they enter the ring someone is going to be hurt very badly, they don't even terrorize anyone with just their mere presence, the staredown etc. Heck these guys don't even have girls falling over them left, right and centre.

What is missing in these guys?

That's because they are not invincible at all. In fact, they have deep flaws that everyone knows about, primarily their chins.

Mike Tyson had a TRUE aura of invincibility with everything to back it up with. Even when he lost to Douglas, the populace knew it was more to do with Tyson himself rather than Douglas. Pre prison Tyson had the speed, power, timing, stamina, the chin, everything needed to beat any other fighter in history at any given night, and do it convincingly.

Tyson also had an opening bell dance/strut that told you he was coming after you with deadly intentions, and whatever you threw wasn't going to faze him. That cannot be said for Joshua and Wilder, and that is why Tyson was considered one of the most feared heavyweights in history.

Because outside the ring AJ seems like a very nice and humble guy. (cough*superior black race*cough)
And Deontay Wilder just acts like a clown.
Iron Mike wasnt going round shouting bomb squad and dancing in the ring.

Yeah, this, plus these kids aren't even trying to been seen like Mike was. Deontay, Anthony, Joseph, and Tyson worry too much about being likeable and charming. Mike acted like a scary dude.

Joshua did but not after WK (old man who should KO'd him) and Takam (last minute stand in and 1/16 who took his shots and should have gone 12). Wilder does not have any fear factor, unless you are a journeyman or out of shape buffet king. Ortiz and Povetkin have more fear factor than him.

go back to 1985 and 1986 and at the time the public/ the commentators / even most of the historians were hailing tyson as the best heavyweight ever with a very few exceotions.

he had the aura of a gladiator who just wanted to rip his opponents head off and **** down there neck.

i dont know what network he was on in america back then i suspect a public one before berbick / in the uk all his fights were shown on delay but he was a huge well known star here even prior to beating berbick he was the boxer everyone was talking about .

i think it was also his squat build /thick legs and everyone was always going on about his 20 inch neck able to absorb anything.

both joshua and wilder have you tube shots of them being stopped and hurt as amatuers and so the aura of invincibilty has never stuck with them unlike the hype and exposure that the young tyson had.

anyone old enough to be around in that era will tell you the hype around tyson was phenomenal.

Yes Tyson wasn't trying to be a nice guy like Joshua or a try hard wannabe tough guy like Wilder. His demeanour conveyed that "Baddest man on the planet" persona, from the way he destroyed his opponents, to the way he walked to the ring, no frill, no robes, he was just a warrior, black trunks, no socks etc.

His performances in the ring only added to that aura of invincibility. While Joshua went life and death when he fought a faded ATG in Wlad, Tyson utterly annihilated Holmes.

Wilder has major flaws and doesn't press you he tries to take fights into later rounds.

Joshua is a hulk but he's also fan friendly and says little to intimidate fighters. I wouldn't say many feared Tyson after his loss to Douglas.

It all comes down to how they marketed Tyson and that was a guy who had his own video game ,had the style and the tough street dialogue unlike the country Wilder and the well spoken Brit.

Tyson was a loose cannon out of the ring and you didn't know which Tyson was showing up. Fighters knew he was walking in the ring to inflict as much damage as early as possible.

People laugh at Wilders antics and Joshua's nice guy act. But nobody would ever laugh in Tyson's face...he was scary, they are silly.

Tyson was terrifying on all fronts. You knew you were in for the fight of your life getting in the ring. The outside antics added to that.
