That’s high praise for Bud to say he’s the best since SRL. What about guys like Finito Lopez, a young James Toney and a young RJJ?
And I think a 180 pound Canelo beats current Crawford. So what? The point is the fight isnt on the radar, Crawford is campaigning at Welter despite their height listings.
Toney was like 90% defence, he's good at what he did but I wouldn't consider him a complete fighter. RJJ, I think he was a terrific athlete, with amazing power but he wasn't a transition type of boxer as well. Lopez was like GGG, on the front foot most of the time.
160lb Canelo does beat any version of Crawford, he beats Duran as well. 154lb Canelo, I'd have no problem picking both Duran and Bud over him, none whatsoever. Iron Mike is 5'10, so is FMJ. If you wanted to make a point about height, you could have gone there. Still, Manny's frame was never that big at 130lbs, he went up to 140lbs, Loma can. If you disagree, fine. I don't care.
I would assume you saw my post was in response to Akbar One claiming height was what mattered. I wasnt challenging you to a contest of brash predictions for fights that are likely not happening anytime soon.
Toney was a definitely not 90% defense. He was a perfect blend of defense and offense at his best. James was a complete fighter who was a master defensively and one of the best counter punchers boxing had ever produced. He didn't accomplish as much as GGG as a middleweight champion but he was a better boxer in my opinion. James just wasn't dedicated to the preparation it took to stay on point like GGG. He relied on his natural ability and ring IQ to get by during his physical peak but it meant he came into fights not in the best shape or in the condition a fighter with his skills and talents need to maintain operating at the sport's highest levels
Once upon a time Toney was briefly #1 P4P. I thought prime RJ transitioned well from defense to offense, albeit his defense was predicated on maintaining distance rather than blocking, parrying, slipping. After a round or 2 his offense essentially served as his defense due to his opponents’ realization that they were in real danger of ending up on the wrong end of a highlight reel KD or KO if they had decided to press their offense. Finito who is very underrated/under appreciated was like RJJ in this respect except his offense/defense transition abilities were based more on always maintaining exceptional balance and being ready to punch. Man Nacho is a hell of a trainer. What do you think about Sal Sanchez as someone who could seamlessly transition from defense to offense? He had a heck of a poker face the way he unflinchingly absorbed Gomez’s best and most desperate bombs. That had to be a scary sight for such a fearsome puncher to see.
Loma is definitely going to move up. He already has. It just will take a little more time. It really hasn't been that long if you think about it. He has only 11 fights under his belt. He already said he's planning to jump up to 135 which will be his 3rd weight class. I don't think it's a question of whether or not Loma has the ability to move up or if he wants to....it's when will he make the jump and which fights make the most sense financially. Mikey Garcia seems to be interested in a fight with Loma and Loma seems just as interested. I'm sure Loma will win a strap at 135 before making a jump to 140 where he most likely will face Garcia
Sal was a beast, I don't think he utilised defence much or counters as he was usually the first to land. Bud's more of a wait(using feints) and destroy type of fighter. Love watching him in slow motion.
I think that mean streak you mentioned will come into play in the Spence fight, I do see Spence landing some decent shots himself, I also see Bud coming right back at him with more flurries than he can handle.
I guess you can call Toney a complete fighter, I just found him too defensive, with my preference for the 50/50 offence/defence type of stuff I like. I get that with Bud.
