Rigo is literally the worst elite professional boxer I've ever witnessed. It's like everything he does is a big "**** you" to the media and boxing fans. > Notoriously considered the most boring elite boxer, resulting in less opportunities for him. Does nothing to change this, even against low level contenders that were FED to him with the intent of making him seem more entertaining (e.g. Drian Francisco). > Never attempted to learn English, despite living in the US, yet complains he'd get more attention if he did. > Hypes up the biggest fight of his career, as well as one of the most significant bouts in history, for months on twitter, criticizing Walters in the process for quitting, and decides to quit because of a supposed boo boo. Also, still displays massive ego in the post-interview. But let's pretend the injury was real. Did Mayweather ever quit while he dealt with brittle hands? Did Pacquiao quit when he was profusely bleeding during his match with Horn? Did ****ing Chris Algieri quit when Provodnikov knocked a piece of his soul out of his body? How about when Pacquiao knocked him down 6 times? Loma himself had to fight with one hand once. Golovkin fought a guy while he had the flu. I understand if Rigondeaux experienced an injury like Brook did against Spence and Golovkin, but it was a hand fracture. He has no heart. None. If this was the last fight of his career, good riddance.
Yeah Loma beat Pirapinyo(spelling?) with 1 hand but he had scored a KD and won all the rounds before busting his hand. But Rigo was disappointing, fans like boxers that bite down on their gumshield and let the chips fall where they may. Doubt he can come back from this but on the bright side this may end Jay Z's foray into boxing.
If you had to experience trying to sleep in Rigo's post fight body you'd understand better. Ouch. I bet he's snuggled up with at least four ice packs on his ribs. Plus, the guy is 37 years old in a very light weight class which sort of makes him elderly in a boxing context. Rigo doesn't deserve any more hate than the previous ~retirees~.
If I was in the ring that night I guarantee that I wouldn't have survived to retire in the sixth round. Do you need to be better than a boxer to criticize? That's like David price would leave a meaning pipe saying to the customer "could you do any better?". We are paying their salary and can therefore put demands on how they should act and have some demands.
For the kind of money he was getting paid I would at least have tried to go the distance. I guess his ego just couldn't take being whitewashed like that.
Hey, he probably shouldn't have quit, but it's easy to call somebody a ***** from your recliner. The man has been in the ring 400+ times. Why take a beating from a guy who is that much younger, stronger and fresher? The only reason he was in the fight anyway is because Uncle Bob and De La Coo Coo shut him out of the game and he couldn't get fights against guys his own size. He really had no choice, his other option was $200,000 off TV for a rematch with Moises Flores that nobobdy wanted to see.
Big Rigondeaux fan, but he disappointed me with that showing. Early on he showed that he belonged in the same ring with Loma. Then something changed. Hopefully a real injury. He just **** on himself big time either way though. He'll be relegated to much smaller pay days now, and be on the road a lot if he continues his career. I imagine that Warren will be trying to make Rigondeaux vs Tete again now that Rigs is looking a bit vulnerable, and that Inoue's people may put up an offer to come to Japan at 118.
