I think you`re right about Hearns, I feel the best counter to a high guard fighter with a great jab is reach, Winky would have to step into Hearns punching range to land his jab, plus Hearns jab was great also, I feel he would throw constant jabs vs Winky like he did with SRL forcing Winky to come inside and leave himself open to counters. Taylor fought well vs Wright at middle I think this is down to his reach and he had the strength to bother Winky Hearns could overpower and intimidate Winky, Paul Williams had some success and he was like a poormans Hearns.

I agree. But then that's not the point I'm making. Overall, Norris had a better run at 154. Head to Head is another story.

Actually I think Norris beats 154 Mosley hands down. What did Mosley really do at that weight but eke out a controversial decision over DeLaHoya?

he fought more at 154, Hearns went on to middleweight, super middle and light heavyweight and cruiserweight, but Hearns fought Benitez and Duran at 154, which overshadows anyone Norris fought there. Hearns had 4 title defenses at 154. 5 title fights.

As for Winky Wright? I think Winky wins a close decision.

Norris not only fought more at 154, he won multiple titles at 154, fought a deeper set of top level fighters at 154, he even whipped leonard at 154 - something Hearns never did. There was a reason Norris was considered Top 5 P4P in the 90's. He's at the top at 154's history.

Although Norris did whip SRL, but you do realize SRL was coming off a 15 month layoff. I’d also say that Hearns whipped SRL in their second fight, despite the officials scoredcards. SRL who is known to be somewhat of an egomaniac has gone on record to say that Hearns beat him that night. I agree that Norris was great and top 5 P4P, but he is definitely NOT history’s best JMW.

Yeah, I realize I was alive at the time and watched it live on HBO. I'm placing Norris at the top of 154 with Hearns and McCallum following. Norris made a career at 154 while it was a mere pit stop for the other two mentioned. Yeah, Norris is #1 at Junior Middleweight. He spent the better part of a decade collecting belts at that weight.

You have your opinion and I have mine. We’ll just have to agree to disagree. Like Hearns and McCallum, Norris was a great fighter.

Would've been nice to see Terry try his hand at 160 when McCallum, Jackson, Hopkins, Toney and the rest of that stacked bunch were ruling the early 90's. Seemed to me he might be hiding his chin by staying at 154 all those years. But who knows.

Norris at 160 would’ve been suicide. Despite the tale of the tape listing him at 5’9”, I’ve stood next to the man and size him up closer to 5’7”, maybe 5”8”. Given his propensity for gym wars with CW brother Orlin, I’m sure Terry would’ve accepted those challenges...I just don’t think they would’ve ended well for him. BTW, you do recall Jackson putting him to sleep?

FYI, I posed for a picture with Sergio Martinez and his height is also overstated. He’s 5’9” tops. Ironically, it seems to me that the lighter fighters’ heights tend understated. I remember seeing Giovanni Segura up close and wondering to myself how he makes 112.

he also lost numerous times and he beat Ray in 1991? That doesn't mean anything significant. Deeper set of fighters? Hearns fought 5 title fights only, but the guys he fought Benitez and Duran make up for anyone Norris fought. And Norris sure lost enough. I like Terry but to say he was better at the weight than Hearns? Hearns and McCallum are the two guys who would be seen as the two best 154 pound guys ever.

Dude, Norris stayed at 154 and was the top guy for nearly a decade. Hearns and McCallum did not. Hearns might have 2 better wins but Norris's resume is far, far deeper. This isn't even up for debate.

That's all that needs to be said. If you want to keep arguing than go ahead. But I'm done.

Yeah it would've been rough for him at 160. I shook his hand, and it was huge for someone so tiny. I'm 6' and 185 lbs. His hands were friggin huge!

many guys stayed at 154 their whole career and to say Norris has a better record than Hearns or McCallum. I don't see it. I still say a Benitez and Duran anyday over shadows who Norris fought..
