I think what works in Carl’s favour is that when he gasses in the later rounds selby hasn’t got the power to flatten him
That's funny....humour is always good. Lee might be feather-fisted but Carl will probably get clipped with a lot of lees tippy tippy shots. Flappy "aaaarrrum puncheese" as the great Jim watt would say. His problem will be to land enough of his own more precise, correct, crisp clean crunching shots to counteract that in the judges eyes.
I simply nearly fell asleep when the Selby fight was on and just cannot take to his boring boxing at all. He really is an atmosphere killer before main events.
Selby wouldn't need to as he would have a points lead coming into the later stage of any fight between the two. Carl doesn't throw enough to lead Selby on ooints at such a stage imo. Take Len, he's a massive fan of Carl's on this forum but he's always been honest to say what i also feel and that is Lee is all technically wrong for Carl.
Lee Selby reminds me of Joe Calzaghe, brilliant boxer, hand speed and boxing brain are immense but he lacks power. He needs to simply beat Frampton/Quigg and Warrington and have a defining fight. He makes his fights look very easy which is why we switch off, it always seems comfortable, if he's under pressure he's composed, he does enough to win rounds - but never dominates them. He does what he needs to win without ever looking stupendous. Very underrated fighter.
thank you moog....but just to be correct it's not so much that Lee is "technically" wrong for Carl that bothers me..so much as his freakish physical advantage in height ...length...reach etc over short stubby Carl. Of course he has foot speed too...and a great engine. Lots for Carl to worry about in other words.
I think lack of volume would be Carl's biggest problem. 2nd biggest is fact Carl is at his best counter punching but for him to be fully successful he needs opponent to fall in when throwing shots, as we know Selby doesn't fall in keeps balance brilliantly and gets out of range very quickly. That's were the lack of height and reach Carl has goes badly against him as he would need Selby to stay in the pocket which he rarely does.
