If the fight were to happen early next year would you guys be okay with Lomachenko facing the guy that gave him his only defeat, even at this stage? It would only make sense for Lomachenko to start the year with a guy like Salido and get his vindication that he deserves while erasing any doubt, and then go on and face better guys like Berchelt, Linares, Garcia, etc. I'd say 2018 would be Loma's absolute best year for him. Even Loma himself has stated that his run this year wasn't impressive despite winning big against Rigondeaux.
It's only acceptable if he's going to fight 3 or 4 times and absolutely cannot find a better opponent for one of those dates. I'll be annoyed if he only snags two fights next year and bypasses someone better for the sake of revenge on Salido. Everyone rational knows how the rematch would've ended for years. I'd much rather see him go after Berchelt or the lightweights straight away.
That's what I about to say. I don't really care to see Salido got trashed, just to silence some resident haters here.
Except it wouldn't shut anyone up, because Siri's so past it, Miguel Roman just stopped him. It would set that record about as straight as Floyd's Castillo rematch if it'd happened in 2007 instead of 2002.
The fact alone that Salido was offered his biggest payday by far, yet he ducked the rematch should shut everyone up.
You know as well as I do that THEY were hoping like crazy Salido would retire. They will now pull the Salido card in every Lomachenko thread. Lol See below where one already said “Well Salido already retired!! Too late!!”
Doesn't work like that. Nothing Loma could've done to Siri years later would really shut anyone up, because the man was on the downside of his prime when they met in the first place (that's why he was selected, it's natural to seek a bit of mitigation when you're facing a tough, crafty vet in your second pro bout). The best thing Loma can do as far as making that L fade is move on, keep winning and beat a 'Siri type' at some point down the road.
