He's absolute shite and always has been. In an interview on the Sky website 2 days ago he was saying he hopes for area level next year. And we've got people like Brook saying he will lead British boxing in the future. Hyperbole, nepotism and awful scoring. Matchroom FC baybayyy
What is it with all the haters on here. He is a young lad who is very inexperienced with no amateur fights behind him. Yes he is hyped up because who is dad is but surely that just makes it even harder for him because there is even more pressure on his young shoulders. It was a cracking fight which we should appreciate and just enjoy. He is a young upcoming British boxer so let's just get behind him.
Seeing Conor Benn bounced twice like that was an absolute classic. The referee should submit his card, and if it shows he messed up by scoring the 2 knockdown round as 10-8 instead of 10-7 then the result should be changed to a draw.
His defence is seemingly non-existant at times. And him getting dropped twice by this guy is probably why his handlers have given him opposition with 5% knockout ratios.
Sorry Nick, but the French lad got utterly robbed of a draw. The officials and the whole event conspired to push a marketable product over the line at the expense of a lad who probably still had aspirations of his own. That’s what is sad here, not a group of boxing fans laying it down on the poor, British up and comer with the famous surname.
I wasn't tAlking about the result as I agree the fight was at least a draw. The whole event is to showcase the young up and coming fighters and if Hearn put these fights on undercards at big fights then people would still complain. Yes Benn was lucky but he needs to learn from this and improve again. I'm just saying stop knocking the kid as he is still learning his trade.
Conor was bloody poor and he kind of made me feel foolish talking him up previously but do people really think this French kid won? FFS not a chance he won, the kds cancel each other out and Conor at worst won 3 rounds (4, 5 & 6), I had round 3 a draw which would give the fight to Conor by 1 point but Conor could have easily been given it, he won 80% of the round although the french lad evened it up with a good finish to the round. The ref having by 3 was a bit mad though, can't see him getting it that wide, no way. Conor needs an instant rematch but I bet they give Robin Deakin a pay day lol, that would be pathetic. I have been saying I expect Conor to fight for a world title one day with an outside shot of winning, but on that performance he would get destroyed at area level let alone British level. He can redeem himself by winning a much cleaner rematch. I kind of think he was a bit out of it for the 1st couple of rounds, he was really hurt badly on the 1st knock down and took a while to recover. Chin seems pretty poor/average but maybe his heart can make up for it. Conor needs to develop some man strength, he looked like a boy in there and the journeyman only started feeling his shots when he was totally gassed.
He shouldn't be on TV at all. 1) he's shite 2) if having that surname does put pressure on him then even more reason for him to be on un-televised cards with people below area level. Maybe get him on some Goodwin cards. 3) he's shite and kissed his dad on the lips 4) #TheDestroyer
Benn was gettimg stronger though and I think if it was 10 rounder he would have got the guy out of there. Echo he was a bit shell shocked after knock down. Did anyone else not think the French kid looked way too 'Live 'he had good feet and a nasty right-hand. I do like the lomas and mayweather but nothing better than seeing two average guys smash each other up that's a fight
He's too small for welterweight, has a terrible defense and is a brutal KO waiting to happen. But I didn't think some random entry level pro would almost do it. Imagine what guys like Skeete and Eggington would do to him. Even Frankie Gavin would probably bash him up at 147.
I don’t think anyone thought that Peynaud won...I can’t recall all the posts, but a definite draw. Like @Grooveongreg said, if it’s a ten rounder, Benn finishes him, round 7-8. He’s just a kid, I appreciate that, but he mistakes heart for being punched repeatedly in the face. Someone needs to tell him that it isn’t heart, it’s awful defence, awful attitude and sheer arrogance. He just wants to prove he’s tough to whoever that is. He’s not that interested in actual boxing skills and outclassing his opponent, despite having all the best opportunities thrown his way to develop. Winds me up.
Lots of people are quick to slag the young lad off after this performance, hardcore boxing fans seem to take great joy when they see someone with hype get "exposed". I was one of Benns biggest critics, I even said before he wont make it beyond British level but come on guys, cut the lad a bit of slack, instead of glorifying another Sky hype job geting exposed, lets praise both fighters for producing such a great fight, one of the best I have seen on Sky all year. It's not Conor Benns fault he's the son of a legend and gets unnecessary hype from Sky. Let's just enjoy Benn for what he is, which is a British level fighter who carries a bit of power and judging by last nights performance has bundles of heart and will no doubt be involved in some good British level fights in the future. Lets not act like dicks just because we have been proved right about someone not being as good as the hype would suggest.
Exactly. The kid has never claimed to be Nigel Benn the 2nd coming. His limited, he has flaws and may not reach the top of the sport but why people hate on him I have no idea.
Hardcore boxing fans just seem to hate anyone who has hype behind him, never understood it personally, it's not like you have to believe the hype that surrounds a fighter, but to dislike a fighter purely because of that reason is very daft IMO.
