The guy could really take a huge whack, punch. This punch from George Foreman at 2:22 would have killed most guys but Holyfield took it like a boss and then quickly recovered in no time This content is protected I wonder if this is the punch he talks about. He did mention that Foreman hit him the hardest ever in his whole career and if this is a shot Foreman, you can only imagine how hard he hit in the 70's.
This is at least equally a testament to Foreman's chin. He took so many more clean blows to the head. Even when they said he is staggered, he seemed more unable to get his shots going than close to going down.
He had a good chin. But it wasn't as good as old George's. And Old George could only land one shot at a time. He was very slow Holyfield was badly hurt by Bert Cooper and Bowe - dropped by Bowe in the first fight and stopped in the third fight. I don't think he could have stood up to prime Tyson. He would have been hit with powerful combinations from prime Tyson.
Someone who gets dropped but recovers immediately to fight on is not someone you can say has a bad chin. Holmes got dropped many times in his career but always got back up to fight on, got himself out of bad situations and recovered like a boss. In Heavyweight boxing anyone can hurt anyone or drop anyone, its how you quickly recover from it and get control of the fight is what matters. One punch from George was worth than 10-15 punch combinations from most average heavyweights. Prime Tyson vs Prime Holyfield we will never ever know. I think Holyfield would give him his toughest fight
Holyfield in many interviews claims no one hit him harder than George Foreman who still had plenty of punching power which is what won him the Moorer fight though it can be debated whether he had the punching power of the 70's with him or not.
George was much larrger and never took a backward step which helped him, opponents were never able to pick up real forward momentum. George had a great chin, so did Tyson and Holyfield. Mikes problem was that because of his all or nothing style his chin only prolonged his beatings. He also couldnt really get on his toes and stay away when hurt either he had to fight them off. Bowe hurt holy through accumulation in the first fight. Holyfield fought a very stupid fight because his brother Bo had just been murdered recently and he wasnt all together mentally. The third fight was more of a fatigue thing, if anything Bowe showed his questionable chin in that fight. Holy had an iron chin and was tough as nails. I think Holyfield would have beat tyson in 89 and 90. Tyson was mentally slipping and not doing what he should be, Holyfield was motivated and on a roll. Tyson was getting hit too much and loading up on single punches, Holyfield was throwing a much higher volume of punches and was constantly in motion, Tyson would have beat Holy in 91 because Tyson was very motivated and Holy was getting comfortable and brawling too much. People interpret the ruddock perfprmances as a sign pf decline but tyson still had all of his physical gifts and was simply fighting differently and in a more conventional style under giachetti. I really liked what i saw in terms of combativeness and mental toughness from tyson in those fights. He was clinching and spoiling too much before that, even under Rooney. Tyson wasnt ready for any really good fighter in 96 evidenced by the fact he ducked Lewis. Tysons post prison career was mostly a farce. Thats my 2 cents
Evander took a monster shot. Lennox Lewis landed some bombs that Evander shook off. Evander was as tough as anyone.
