Overall a lackluster affair. Povetkin again not working hard enough to get the ko.

He's clearly past his best at age 38.

Well that was dull Hammer came only to survive, spending the vast majority of the fight behind a high guard and only throwing 4 or 5 punches per round. I thought he was going to at least give it a go in the final round but alas not.

I think we need to give Hammer credit here, as he came in the best shape he has ever been in and looked good. Just not good enough to beat an old Povetkin who is now barely hanging onto his elite status at 38....

Damn great point, like how black fighters got past the colorline. If you were too goof the honks just ducked you, and if you were too **** you couldn't be justified. Being good but beatable is how you got a white man to fight you.

Take aways from this for me.

Pov Parker will be a dull affair with a decision either way (60-40 Pov).

Pov Wilder... Easy UD or late stoppage for Pov.

Pov Joshua... Joshua should take this but probably on a decision rather than stoppage. Pov from a few years ago would be 50/50 but this is more 70/30 to Joshua now.

I don't see any of the top heavies being eager to face Povetkin in all honesty... He's older and has lost a slight step, but he's still high risk. Joshua is eyeing Wilder, Fury and maybe even a Whyte rematch - those are all higher profile fights in England. Parker's handlers won't want it either... Wilder? His track record speaks for itself. Most likely candidate is Charr rematch for the WBA regular.

Might Povetkin have taken his foot off the gas a bit to make Wilder or Joshua think he's slipping?

Agreed. Past best. Wilder ran away when he was peak, on slide now for sure.
