Povetkin is the most skilled heavyweight currently

Love Povetkin, been watching him since the beginning of his career, but I gotta agree with you... Last 2 fights were not impressive.. I know his opponents were tough, and they just wanted to survive, they both had solid chins.... but I'm glad Povetkin will finally get a huge payday and face a top guy. hopefully we will see it in the summer!

 

Big fan myself mate. He had so much potential going for him at the start of his career and it went no where. 10 years ago he would have spilt Hammer in half.

 

I was at the klitschko fight in Moscow back in 2013. that was the most painful fight I've ever watched. Klitschko was running away the whole time... if he wasn't running, he was grabbing and clinching... people started booing... Povetkin couldn't get anything done because of the height difference. But other than that he's got a helluva jab, straight, and uppercut... very solid arsenal... hardly gets hit... his worst performance was against Huck, who almost beat him... not sure what happened to him in that fight... but it was horrible... his newest fights he's had some very rugged opponents, so he wasn't able to get the stoppage.. Povetkin keeps losing weight, last fight against hammer he was his career lightest weight.. maybe he needs to gain more weight back?

 

Certainly appears to be out of prime at this stage and considering the effort that was made by corrupting anti doping filth to get him banned from the sport he is no doubt the cleanest HW out there currently which coupled with age is a nasty combination to overcome.

 

Needs to be nearer 230lb than 220lb for me, especially vs Joshua if that fight ever happens.

 

Povetkin being recognized for skilled as he is and he was even better several years ago, that is a testament to just how dominant Wlad was, and for so long, over so many very good threats. Yet he walked through them all

Brock, chambers, Ibragimov.....on and on. Hey dominated the division and avoided NOone for over a decade

Chagaev, another example. He was also a “very” skilled undefeated, come forward, contender when Wlad thrashed him also like a red headed step child

regardless of your dislike of him, he would be the 2nd best opponent for one belt holder and the best for the other two. one of them needs to grab that glory and take the old man out!

 

I don't have any respect for any man who uses PEDs and gets suspended or banned because of them, sorry. And imo when he stepped up against the hvw champion, he was totally outclassed. That's how I see Headvetkin.

Povetkin has good skills, sharp blows, serial work of hands, stamina, good chin and steel character but he always had two minuses, despite the fact that he can strike sharply and serially, Povetkin isn't a real puncher and second Povetkin seems to not have any "boxing intelligence".
In the most difficult of his fights Povetkin simply "overworked" his opponents, demonstrating in the first place more of his character than skills. Like it was in the fights with Chambers, Chagaev, Huck.
I hope that next year Povetkin will face Parker or AJ, because his age began to influence him, and Povetkin has a maximum of 2 years where he can still show boxing at the top level
