before he retired i remeber a giy on twitter saying Ward should come to the UK because he could maybe fight a Bellew. UK 'fans' are a whole different weird breed

 

I listened to a recent interview with Bellew where he admitted how poor he was against Stevenson and came across as a fairly normal bloke who was just willing to do whatever it took in the short term to have a comfortable retirement.

I don't think he's a great boxer, likely on the European / World boundry at LHW and CW, but I suspect his public persona means he is underrated by the hardcore. Yet by acting like a knob, he has secured his family's financial future... can't say I wouldn't do the same.

 

Gets knockout at lhw in the poorest title challenge for a UK fighter away from home then wins a vacant cw title against a fighter that was not that good calls all the champions out doesn't fight any of them has a defense against a complete trash can then gets out of the division and fights a complete shells of a fighter his career has been a joke

 

Bellew is a ****. Liked him before the Haye fight but now he's a money grabbing, two faced up his on arse *****.

to be fair Bellew always says he is doing what's best for his family and he is, by all this hype nonsense, gets the casuals in and PPV, fair play to him, he isn't a PPV fighter in a million years but somehow has done it quite a bit

 

If people want to pay for it then they will charge, simple supply and demand, Bellew to be fair has made demand for himself somehow, people wanted him vs Haye and then again and it's happening couldn't even really class it as mugging if people if people are demanding it

 

Tony Bellew grabs the interest of people with a casual interest in boxing. These people might not quite appreciate the ‘sweet science’ but the story or journey grabs their interest..or they just want to see him get knocked out. It’s great for attracting new fans to the sport, if they put on a good undercard.

I like him. Local lad done good and all that.

 

Maybe but I think it's more down to matchroom changing his life. Nobody would of said Bellew's career would of went through way it did after Stevenson.

He got to fight and win a world title at Goodison. He fights Haye at HW and makes enough money to set him and his family up for life and then gets an even more rewarding rematch.

I wouldn't be surprised if Bellew is getting Barry Hearn to look after his money as well.

 

Yeah the Goodison fight was huge for Bellew. That fight made him a star.

Fair enough, people respect him for wanting to secure his family's future but he doesn't half harp on about it. All boxers want that. What grown man doesn't?
