just heard David Lemieux say this in his post fight interview and it’s some you see a lot of boxing fans mention after fights

If you’re a boxer and your best assets are your footwork and slick boxing ability, why on earth would you ever stand toe to toe with a power puncher?

It frustrates me when people say oh they just ran, because it’s a boxing style, you have to work to your advantages and these professionals should work on cutting off the ring rather than complaining at the end of a fight

There are some boxers who take the running concept too far and are too negative, making it boring to watch such as Hughie fury and rigo etc, but BJS absolutely schooled Lemieux with his boxing ability

If people want to say ‘running’ then yea he ran and won maybe every round and kept his belt away from home. If he went toe to toe, that probably wouldn’t be the same outcome

not really true anyway, Lemieux was on the retreat himself a fair bit.

There was only one point in the whole match where Lemmy really hurt BJ to be fair, early on when he got trapped in a corner.

Part of the sweet science is foot work which seems to be highly unappreciated these day's footwork can be used offensively but also defensively, The best masters of the sweet science all used this to their advantage, Ali did it ,Mayweather did it, Tyson fury did it and Saunders also does it, as long as you are ALSO still landing more offensive shots than your opponent then it should not matter, boxing is about scoring points, if you can hit and not get hit it doesn't matter how you don't get hit, Fan's get frustrated because just like the opponent gets frustrated because he can't hit his oppoent and the guy they want to lose isn't getting hit.

In the last round billy joe was nonchalantly running like he didn't give a **** that you think hes running, the fact is he did enough in previous rounds to allow him self the luxury of taking an entire round off and running, That's some boss **** if you ask me, if you can box somebody's head off that you can take rounds off that says more about your skills than you taking a round off.

Let me first say that this was an incredible performance by Saunders. He was fantastic.

However, I did feel he sometimes went overboard with the evasion. There were a couple rounds where I really didn't think Saunders was landing much more than Lemieux was.

And of course in round 12 Saunders really did run away to evade any possible chance of a KO.

    Looking at compubox:

Saunders landed 62 "power punches" to Lemieux's... 55?

I'm a little surprised by that, even though it supports my point. Obviously the jabbing favors Saunders by a landslide (103 vs 12 for jabs landed).

Boxing is the art of hitting without being hit. Some people focus on one aspect over the other to their detriment. Fact is Saunders landed far more than Lemieux did and that's all that really counts, he should of cut the ring off better if he wanted to land more.

Who's gonna pay to watch Saunders run his way to a decision each and every time?

At least Golovkin got Lemieux out of there.

Saunders good, but way too negative for my liking.

If Sauders was running all fight there must have been another guy in the ring who messed Lemieux`s face up.

I don't think you can accuse someone of running when they've completely bashed your face up and embarrassed the life out of you.

If it was a more highly regarded fighter than Saunders who did that last night the forum would be having an absolute wankfest over the performance just now. For me it was the best display I've seen all year.

Lemieux is jealous, he wishes he could run away as well as Billy. He tried it after Marco Antonio Rubio took his best and started putting it on him, but he didn't have that Saunders class.

Best boxing performance I’ve seen for ages, never rated the kid , boy I do now , Lemieux showed zero class with his comments after the fight , he was schooled in the art of boxing, and I enjoyed every round watching it happen!

So if you was a boxer not known for your power, but known to be a better boxer than your opponent.. your trainer won’t say “go out there and trade with him for 12 rounds” it’s a stupid idea.

Like I mentioned above you work to your strengths and that’s why there’s so many styles in boxing and styles make the fights

Okay, good win by BJS... but Spike is the better watch because he just wants to fight you. Spike > Bike.

Billy Joe Saunders is Gypsy slick! :campeon:

If Saunders boxes against Golovkin like he boxes against Lemieux (or even better), it certainly gives GGG something to think about.
