I'm the first to criticize him when he earns it. He's easily got the worst resume of any hw belt holder in history who's made at least 6 successful defenses. And it's not even close. Right now it's a joke to say he deserves 50% against AJ, or that he is in AJs league, or even that an AJ Wilder fight would be any more interesting than a AJ fight against Parker, Ortiz, or Povetkin.

But if Wilder beats Ortiz he deserves to be ranked as a clear #2 in the division. And then his longer reign as champ than AJ becomes more credible and a good argument could be made he deserves a 45/55 split with AJ.

As bad as his opponents have been, did anyone expect him to face Ortiz after being burned before? I still won't really believe it happens until it actually happens. But if it does, give the guy credit. Ortiz is a clear top 5 hw who brings no money to the table. Wilder will be doing it to prove himself and make a moral push for a near 50/50 split with AJ. And I'll support him for a 50/50ish purse if he does beat Ortiz

That said, I still think there's a good chance it wont happen and we'll see Wilder Stiverne III.

    Yes he does.

When one steps up they get credit.

When they dont, not so much.

Until and unless he beats Ortiz, the fanboys saying AJ Wilder is the best fight to be made are crazy. If he does that, I'll hop right on that train.

Well this will be his biggest step up, 100 years later, finally. But...the big thing with Wilder is always going to be. What opponent can take the punishment? I don't know, but I don't believe Ortiz will have the chin to stand in there too long. I'm regretfully going Wilder KO in 3 or under.

I agree fighting (and beating Ortiz) should finally legitimize his claim to be one of the divisions top fighters..

In saying this I don't see why it would affect his purse split unless the Ortiz fight shows he is popular enough to demand more..

Splitting purses is a popularity contest not who is the best fighter...

Yeah, i rag on him huge but thats for his outside the ring stuff, inside the ring i love watching him, he is hugely entertaining, on the other hand that has come via facing less then stellar opp to date.

I am dying to know if he can pull it off with the top guys and i have never before waited so long on a fighter before i found out. Like how many years now? Thats part of why i rag on him so much.

I got a love hate relationship with Wilder. Its like Hamed, i used to hate him but i was so entertained by him i loved him at the same time. When Prince ended up getting beat by MAB at first i was happy and then suddenly i felt sad, lol

He's very entertaining and I want to root for him, his opposition has just been so bad and its actually literally disgraceful that a HW champ with 6 defenses has never beaten a fully proven top 5 hw. It's not all his fault to be fair, and of he does this, he'll have mostly redeemed himself in my eyes.

Will king Kong be fit to fight without his heart meds doe? I'm worried about the 53 year olds health.

Should still be able to smash Deonkey in time to make it to the hospital for an angioplasty

Lol, that would be at least as fair as it is for Wilder to be asking 50/50 against AJ right now.

The winner of Ortiz Wilder would actually deserve it against AJ though, or close to it.

Yes true, although if AJ were to look impressive beating Parker that would swing it a little bit as well. But thats getting ahead of ourselves, lol, maybe Parker beats AJ and Ortiz beats Wilder for all i know.

Both would be distinctly possible. I think it would be better for boxing if AJ and Wilder won, but part of me would laugh at the irony, and at the massive disappointment of the more extreme and annoying elements of both AJ and Wilder fan bases.

Ortiz is age 38 now and hasn't looked good since his fight with Jennings.

Had Wilder fought him directly after the Jennings-Ortiz fight, he would deserve credit. But I think he wanted to wait for Ortiz to get old.

If Ortiz gets into good shape, maybe Wilder will chicken out again, perhaps use old Ortiz' high blood pressure medication as an excuse (like he did before).

Wilder has never beaten a good heavyweight in his prime. If he really is what he pretends to be, wouldn't he go over to the UK and fight Joshua?

So either the winner between an old man, and a windmilling Can crusher is going to attempt to unify against A body builder with a glass jaw and a Walking Kiwi?

Fighting and beating kingkong will make a him a legit belt holder.
Step in the good direction but not too fast. He's still not the man
