ESPN has made a big bet on boxing will it pay off ?

I don't know. Did it work the last twenty years they did it with Friday Night Fights or when they killed that to get into bed with Al Haymon's PBC?

 

Right now they appear to be doing much better than HBO or Showtime!

 

ESPN doesn't even make their host and television personalities promote good match ups. They deserve everything they get

 

I don't honestly give a damn. First to give me a netflix style product gets my money.

 

A trading concept for boxing actually sounds... really cool! A new promoter might have to accept a contract, but if the boxer thinks he would have better matchups and opportunities with another promoter he should have the freedom to pursue a path with that promoter. When a boxer isn't happy with a promotional situation currently he's forced into inactivity or taking fights he'd rather not.

Oh, I read the article beyond the headline now. It's not trading rights to a guy to another promoter completely, just trading him for a single fight, so a fight could be made, and aired on the network the other promoter's airing it on. Sounds great too, it would allow fights that should be made to be made more easily. But promoters won't be so willing to rent out their guy if they had still have a stake in his future. Not as good as what I hoped.

ESPN picking up the best fighter in the world can only help. Stupid how HBO cut Lomachenko free so they could keep all the guys at SFW who will not fight him and showcase their fights instead.
