No Larry calling somebody a “disgrace to the human race” goes quite a bit further. You said Larry was “very complimentary” toward Ritchie. Well here is evidence of Larry being very uncomplimentary toward Ritchie. How’s that for egg on your face?
No I was referring to his ability as a trainer, sorry, no " touche" there for you. Seventeen pages, the kid will be happy!
Holmes and Douglas quoted by NY Times on Giachetti's death stating he should be in trainers HOF and quite annoyed he isn't if I recall correctly.
https://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/boxi...mes-and-mike-tyson--dead-at-76-002507972.html CLEVELAND, Ohio - Former heavyweight champion James "Buster" Douglas probably speaks for many of the boxers that trained under Richie Giachetti. "Richie will be missed," said Douglas, who trained with Giachetti for four fights. "Our chemistry was awesome. The best thing about Richie is that he could read well into different situations in a fight. I remember one fight where I was way ahead but I started to get lackadaisical. Richie got into my face and woke me up. I went on to win the fight."
And when Turner dies, they’re going to say “He was a **** talking BBQ uncle who should never get into the HoF.” Obviously.
Don Turner. His work with Evander Holyfield alone should erase any doubt that he's a good trainer. In Evander Holyfield's corner as his main trainer from 1994 to 2003. Holyfield's past prime for that entire period yet put on some unexpected good performances in that time when critics, including notable great trainers, had written him off. Don Turner obviously did a very good job. Holyfield only sacked Turner because Turner had CORRECTLY thrown in the towel in the Toney fight. And probably because Turner knew Holyfield had nothing much left to give anyway, it was obvious to everyone except Holyfield. Holyfield said "I can't work with someone who doesn't believe in me." Holyfield was deluded. Turner came out of that looking good. I don't understand why people can doubt Turner's ability as a trainer. Did he make some mistakes ? Sure. But who didn't ? All the top trainers have made some huge mistakes, though few will admit it. Does he talk some crap ? Sure. But, again, who doesn't ? Most of us here on this forum have spent many hours talking crap about boxing history (myself certainly), though many of you here never admit it.
Nobody can doubt Turners ability as a trainer but there are those out there that need to believe there must be something crazy about him because he is too fond of old school champions for their liking. Turner beliving Marciano knocks out the Klitschkos just dosnt jive with the “big is best” “modern training” gang. And they cannot forgive Don for that outrage.
Some are claiming him as an all time great trainer and there I think ,"lies the rub." Who are these people that think this way? Personally I'm biased towards old school champions. I also think that's several of the older ,smaller champs beat both the Klits. And I've never subscribed to the big is best theory. So I'd like to know who here, in your opinion , has these views and is correspondingly biased aginst Turner because of them.I ask this because I think you are talking a pile of sh*t! I doubt his ability as an all time great trainer
I don’t understand the beginning of your post. Who did you know that trained Lewis? That’s good that you read 10 books on Ali, but here’s a little secret: Most of those authors thought they were closer to the subject than they actually were, and none of them ever accurately described his inner circle. There’s a limit to what all of them knew or know. And Turners name doesn’t need to be mentioned in any of the books for Ali to have known him and been friends with him. Ali may have befriended more human beings than any other person on Earth.

So once again the kid strikes out!
Classy I don't need to you bozo. My pops was as close to Ali as Herbert, and he was around when many of these books were being written. To put it politely, these authors would embellish their relationships with Ali, and would often print lies about who was sitting next to who, and who was closest to who. This is being general, and there were some good writers and reporting here and there, but they all had their own vested interests and games to play. They were even bickering amongst each other at his funeral. Ali was the nicest guy on Earth, and anybody could take advantage of him. He had a hard time saying no, and he rolled with the punches when people didn't have his best intentions at heart. You can use Ali books as a bible on what is accurate about him, as long as its clear that you are subscribing to guys who really didn't know much about Ali. I'd trust Don Turners word over them on that matter. None of them denied the claim. You are posing that because none of the books mention Turner, he never actually was friends with Ali? You really think all of Ali's life and relationships fit on 10 books? lol.
