Lorenzo Zanon, who resembled Fred Sanford's next door neighbor Julio, outjabbed Holmes. Lennox does the same. I'm amused anyone would pick Holmes the "incredible master boxer" who got outfoxed by Witherspoon and picked apart by Carl Williams for God's sake to school the faster, bigger, stronger Lewis. Talk about sentiment overriding logic. Go back and watch Holmes go life and death with slow and sluggish Mike Weaver again and tell me again how he's going to go Pernell Whitaker on Lewis.
Holmes great jab and ring IQ vs Lewis who stood tall and had a brutal right hand the one punch Larry struggled with.....this is a bad matchup for Holmes an ATG vs another ATG who was bigger and more athletic.....IMO Lewis's right hand was equal if not harder than Shavers when delivered full bore and unlike Shavers Lewis in his prime had good stamina....In this matchup I keep remembering how the inexperienced Cooney was actually winning the fight with Holmes using his size to outbox a master and Lewis is better than Cooney....
Larry struggling with the right hand is a myth, he only got KO'd once in his career that also against a Prime Tyson who needed 30 punches to put him away. And Lewis did not have good stamina, he always slowed down whenever he went the distance. Lewis will have no answer to Holmes jab, hand speed and ring smarts.
I think that many people here are talking about the fellings and not with the facts on the table. Lewis is the logic winner and even by stoppage
Lewis is up against a guy who has recovered many times from bad situations, knock downs and has only been KO'D once and is the better boxer. Lewis is not going to stop Larry and Larry will take Lewis to school in the middle to late rounds.
If it was ali then yes.. The difference of speed would be great .but we are talking about holmes... He did not have the chin of ali neither. Like i said before.. The difference of speed between holmes and lewis was not huge, Holmes was a little faster period. Larry holmes never ever was a speed demon he never was like a 60s ali. Also larry had a bad habit,he got hot very fast and he traded with guys that could bang,it would be a big mistake against lewis, holmes was susceptible to a big right hand and lewis had one of the hardest in history. I have no doubt about that... If you put a 2000 lewis in the place of spoon, norton or shavers then larry would get knocked out
Styles make fights.I do not see a Lewis doing too well chasing Larry down.Holmes had great movement, decisive better speed and even the edge in the jab department.
The guy got knocked just once in his entire career that also up against a prime Tyson who had to throw the entire kitchen sink at hime and has a solid track record of getting up from bad situations and winning a fight unlike the chinny girl lenni who got starched by 1 big shot to the face twice and you are criticizing Holmes chin?
Your post did not add up to a whole lot.Referring to Spoon, Shavers or Norton.Lewis fights nothing like these guys. They were excellent pressure fighters, Lewis is not.On top of that Holmes beat all of them. Styles make fights.Holmes movement, hand speed and jab are a difficult proposition for the style of Lewis.
Tim whiterspoon a pressure fighter? Jesus give me break.. Lewis has stylistical advantage over Holmes
