Meanwhile, back in reality, Ward is an upstanding family man who took on all relevant comers over the course of a championship career. He's no more 'dirty' than many great champions in the history of boxing. It's a man's sport, with little room for namby-pambies who shy away from getting their hands dirty.

It's funny to look back a decade and recall how many of Floyd's detractors claimed they'd embrace his skills if only he was more of a stand-up gent and less of a flashy, c

cky SOB. I remember pointing out that there was a guy who fit that exact bill working his way up to contention as we spoke and that none of them were paying him any mind. Ten years and multiple championships later, Andre Ward is just too squeaky clean and brilliant to be trusted. Well, imagine my shock. It's hilarious how much he got under so many guys' skins purely by being a winner, to the point of them projecting these fictitious, demonic alter egos onto him.

So many of these guys have dark pasts and skeletons in the closet but from what I am aware of I would have to say Adonis. That guy is a predator. Any guy who can pimp women out and then beat them for their money and keep them penned up like animals and smile like he's the nicest, most wonderful guy in the world when the cameras are rolling, yeah, there is something amiss there. I don't even want to know what all that guy has done.

The fact that some people here are mentioning Ward is clear evidence that they are already so far gone with their delusions!!

He's literally THE premier gentleman of the sport. Someone who has not a bad thing to say about anyone, someone who has great respect for all of his contemporaries and the sport, someone who trains the right way, someone who has no scandals of any kind whatsoever, someone who is a responsible loving family man, A God Fearing man with great admirable qualities.

Yeah he's Satan reincarnate, he's so evil!!! :roto2lol:

Now you mention it, Satan, Lucifer, Lightbringer,Morningstar, Beëlzebub... as a fallen angel acording to the myths, he technically is a son of god.
Now the SOG suddenly makes sense. And here I thought it was Haymon.

He's not nearly as likable as the tv caracter though.

I am not a Ward fan because I don't care for his style but I agree with you that it is nonsense that he would be mentioned here as being evil or dark. A lot of people are offended when someone declares himself as superior. I am not saying Ward is saying that about himself but I think some people feel he is, in declaring himself Son of God. I think what Ward is saying is we are all God's children and he, too, is a son of God. But I suspect that is what is going on with those who mention his name on this thread. Otherwise, it makes no sense.

That's exactly what his nickname meant. That we're all SOG's and he's one as well.

He's said it on multiple occasions in past interviews.

Not sure why some others interpreted it differently. Not sure where superiority even came from lol. It doesn't even make sense. He's certainly not calling himself freaking Jesus LOL.

 The antipathy is absurd, and it does make you wonder exactly what deeper resentments lie beneath its surface, because there's certainly no rational foundation. All Andre Ward ever had to do to be so intensely disliked was fight hard, win and be himself (courteous, dignified, nobody's fool).

He made something of himself from a less than enviable start in life, and that's about more than just championship belts and seven figure paydays - he made a solid guy of himself. You get a strong feeling with Ward that he would have found his way and excelled even if not for his aptitude as a boxer.

I agree with you. I just believe that is where the animosity comes from. Some people are so emotional, sensitive about their religious feelings.

They believe that he is saying is THE son of God, not A son of God.

Unfortunately, that probably would not have been the case. We ALL can go down a path we would not be proud of if we were not able to produce opportunities. Yes, Ward is impressive today, even out of the ring, because of all of the things boxing has brought to him. Had he not had boxing he probably would have either lived a life of anonymity/mediocrity or maybe worse. After all, he is a product of Oakland. Tough area.

Well, it's always hard to say for sure. In reality, a boxer is what he is. That said, and not to suggest that an alternate career as an aerospace engineer was beckoning him if he'd never picked up the gloves, I see no reason why a level-headed, essentially decent young guy can't get out of a crappy situation and do well for himself with the focus and resolve that Ward has demonstrated. It does happen all the time. Much more than the physical aptitude and talent, it's the diligence and common sense he's applied to his profession and lifestyle that make me think he would have found something else constructive and rewarding to apply himself to if not for boxing. There's no shame in anonymity, and mediocrity is a relative concept.
