I don`t think Ray was one of the greatest middles ever, welter was his best weight.

GGG throws way more jabs than Hagler did vs Ray and jabs were used well by fighters to stop Ray getting an offense going, very often in his fights Ray would go long periods without punching, GG constantly jabs and constantly pressures.

Well he only fought there Once .. and he did beat one of the best middles ever .. And that's not counting of course the Camacho fight after his 6 year lay off ... He was best at WW .... Ya well I think if he can handle the Hearns' Jab, he can handle the GGG jab ... Pressure was nothing new to Ray .. He had the movement and speed to deal with it

Leonard lost nearly all of the first 12 rounds against Hearns.

It was Hearn's jaw that let him down.

GGG's jaw is on a different level.

He loses to GGG and very possibly to Canelo too.

    Wrong!!!

    • Unofficial AP scorecard: 126-122 Leonard
    • Unofficial New York Times scorecard: 124-123 Hearns

    • You're not giving Ray enough credit here..

I watched it live and I gave Ray, if I remember, two or three rounds.
I figured he was a goner up till the KO.

I believe the judges were a little overgenerous to the bigger name there.

I'll have to watch it again over the holidays.

Both beat the Leonard who "beat" Hagler. Canelo was a 152 pound babe against May and has since blossomed into a real middle with high level skills, good pop and boxing IQ. GGG, at his best, is just too much man for Leonard and way too much pop.

Constant, intelligent pressure behind those powerful jabs of his make GGG the tougher proposition.

His last few showings have been unimpressive, however, being shown up, one way or the other, by the likes of Brook, Jacobs, and Canelo. Though he came away undefeated, these men exposed a few deficiencies in his game, deficiencies Ray could go on to exploit if he put his mind to it.

In his prime, I think Gennady was big enough and strong enough to batter Leonard despite the skill gap; the present version might just fall behind on work-rate in a more interesting and competitive fight.

Canelo, despite sitting on obviously well-honed skills, has never impressed me. He was nearly shut-out by a diminished Mayweather, and has lost more than his record reveals on paper. If ever there was a prime candidate for Leonard to out-skill and out-hustle, it would be Canelo.

Canelo is not in the same league as Leonard, even at middleweight.

Ray gets knocked out by a prime Golovkin, he can beat Canelo at middleweight by decision

Ray's record at middle consists of a dubious win of Hagler, a dubious draw against Hearns, cuffing around a dilapidated 38 year old Duran and two losses. Without much need for imagination, one could easily see his middleweight record as 1-4.

And this is the guy I am to believe would disarm a prime GGG?
