Oh you know. Before Loma schooled him he was a “Jaw breaker.” And a “Top 5 PFP boxer” I believe Ward and several other usual suspects had him in their top 3. But now apparently he was just a “Romantic Fancy as a pro.” and “Out of his prime.” Lol! Too funny.
Except I've been questioning the mythology around the guy for years. In fact, I declared him both 'overrated' and a 'show pony' right here within 24 hours of the opening bell of Loma-Rigo. "Story stay the same I never changed it." There isn't really a scheming, monolithic 'they' to rail against, Todd. A lot of us are just calling it straight down the line, while others are realizing they might have been too enamoured of a guy who had encountered little in the way of high-quality competition as a pro.

Before the fight everyone was saying - hes P4P top 5, one of the most skilled fighters ever, loma was ducking him, he was gonna whoop Loma After the fight they are saying- he was never P4P, he was overrated, hes Old, hes 40 (when hes 37)he was inactive, Loma needs to face Garcia or Crawford ( 3 divisions higher) blah blah.
As Loma puts it, Rigo is great but 130 is not his weight class. I hope he manages to comeback and gets some win at feather or below.
I think Rigondeaux should be in the hall of fame, with his amateur achievemnts factored in, but probably won't get there. One of these days he will reveal his real age and then a lot of things will change. Rigondeaux was a blown up bantam turned junior-feather who everybody avoided, Oscar and Bobby froze him out of the action and he really had no choice but to move up and fight Rigo. Guys on here go on and on about how he quit, but he is past his prime fighting a hall of famer in his prime having moved up two weight classes. Vitali Klistchko quit against a guy two weight classes DOWN who wasn't a hall-of-famer, in his prime, but it is forgotten. It happens in boxing. Great boxer, never got fair opportunities, hopefully he gets a chance at Santa-Cruz, Mares or Frampton or Russell, there's still no one at 118 or 122.
Another FACT is that he was 3 divisions removed from his best weight class. I love Lomachenko, and it was an intriguing fight, but the size disparity cannot be overlooked.
Doesn't really change. He's likely really in his 40s, and was too small for Lomachenko. Clearly not the same sharpness, and timing as the Rigo from the Donaire fight. He's still the best 122 pounder out there though, and probably beats any featherweight outside of maybe Russell Jr.
Totally agree. The small handful of racists on this forum forget that Vitali packed it in after hurting himself in the Byrd fight. Correction though, Bobby and Al froze Rigs out. Oscar actually tried to make Santa Cruz vs Rigondeaux, but Al clicked a clause in the Santa Cruz contract and bought him out, before Oscar could have the fight signed.
Loma was a feather he moved up to super feather himself! So loma moved up 1 division and Rigo 2 . Yet the divisional differences in the lower weight divisions is a measly 4lbs! Lol Rigo moved up the equivalent of 1 division lets be real. Thr fight clearly showed Loma is just a superior fighter than Rigo deal with it and stop crying and being so bitter
