Why do Marciano fans attempt to downplay Liston & Foreman?

    Quite a few people who are Marciano fans are also Liston fans.

    If the trend described exists, it might simply be a case of certain people being drawn to certain eras.

    There is nothing to dislike about Marciano,avoided no-one ,the guy was 100% a warrior, great conditioning ,huge heart, excellent power,determination,will to win. Just handicapped by lack of speed ,size, top boxing ability ,and a tendency to cut. That he achieved so much is tremendous !

    I sometimes think that Marciano haters and Marciano skeptics, tend to see Marciano supporters as being something that they are not.

    How many of these Marciano fans who play down Liston and Foreman, have actually picked Marciano to beat one or both of them?

    Yeah, but I love Marciano. I rank him #3 all time, love watching him fight, hearing him talk, whatever, and I still find his hardcore more unreasonable than any other hardcore.

    To be fair though, it's probably just about transience and one or two lunatic posters. It was Dempsey's lot a few years back (as you know :boxing:).

    Indeed, i took the courtesy of only mentioning by name current inactive posters.
    I remember Bummy once saying that Ali fans make him out to be Superman, yet he could never once bring himself to side with 1 single heavyweight over Rocky. It is as though doing so would be against his religion or somesuch.

    Then we had the oft repeated....
    Lyle wasn't a puncher
    Qawi and Peralta caused him problems
    Liston would quit etc
    I also believe that Larry Holmes was never forgiven for that jockstrap comment.
    I remember asking another current user 3 or 4 times who he thought Marciano would lose to and he never once replied.
    Burt was the same with Dempsey.
