Ernie Shavers & Jerry Quarry vs Deontay Wilder

Let's see Eilder beat more than 1 top 10 fighter first before we start making fantasy fights against very legit contenders during a very good era. To me shavers and Quarry both KO Wilder. Gerry sets a trap and counters him into oblivion and Shavers attacks him early and bomb squad needs a medic.

 

Hmm ironically i think shavers does better than quarry.

Shavers stopped big heavyweights joe bugner and roy williams who were decent, skilled contenders. He proves his power effective against the best of the 70's famously stopping norton and ellis (former belt holders) and of course his impressive bouts with ali and holmes where he came up short in his two thrilling title fights.

Shavers had one of the most effective overhand rights in the game, had underrated timing and accuracy as poor Larry found out. Still, Wilders chin hasnt been tested yet and i wouldnt put 1 peso on him being able to survive a shavers bomb until we see more from him. Maybe the Ortiz and Joshua fights will give me more confidence. As of now, Wilders best chance would be to use his long reach to bombard shavers with jabs, stick, move, and occasionally throw a right and tie him up avoiding a slugfest. If he can make it to round 9, 10, 11 he'll definitely have a chance of winning the decision or stopping shavers late.

Quarry is obviously 2-3x more skilled than wilder with way more elite level experience. Excellent counters would make wilder weary, and quarry proved very effective against big men who could crack (foster, lyle, shavers, etc). However, 2 things would present serious problems fpr quarry: his major reach disadvantage and his tendency to cut. Wilder can box, hes not just a mindless slugger, and even against a veteran like quarry hed know to use his size to his advantage from round 1. If wilder starts connecting with those windmill blows, a cut or bruise is bound to happen, and wilder would target it. I just dont see quarry, whose barely bigger than Andre ward, lasting long against Wilder. His experience, ring iq, and durability give him a chance of course, but the enormous height/reach discrepency (and of course, wilders mule kick like power) would tip the scales in Wilders favor more often than not 7/10.

 

Either of them could pose a threat to wilder.
Quarrys best attribute was that he can take a punch.
Shavers could theorically beat anyone, I don' think wilder has a good a chin as Holmes, so if shavers lands that murderous overhand wilder would go down and not get back up. But I think wilder would k.o. Shavers who had a glass chin using a one two combo. Wilder is hard hitter with a long reach after all.
Quarry might pose more a threat even though shavers is the more dangerous. Quarry wouldn't go down but realistically wilder beats him too

 

If shavers can land his overhand right..

I don't know if wilder can get up.

 

Wilder could get lucky and catch Shavers, but, I think Shavers gets there first for a brutal KO.

Quarry beats the living **** out of Wilder. Jerry is far more skilled, would not be even the slightest bit intimidated by carnival act, Wilder, and has the chin to withstand a lucky punch from Deontay.

Quarry would relish the chance to expose this fraud.
