Of course, more movement, Walcott would slipnslide and get on his bike. This could in all likelihood be a 3 round fight for Bruno. I mean, how does(Marciano) he cope with a clubbing heavy much bigger man, with a jab that rivals Marciano's oppositions right hands nearly !
Mcvey is on the money here. This was written seven years ago before all the cigars and brandy and before @mcvey started to lose his mind. As he said “Bruno did not have it at top level”. And this is why Rocky takes him out.
Too much of what? Too much of a stationary target? I remember a cruiserweight guy called Stewart Lithgo. I knew of him. Lithgo fought Mitch green as an Amatuer. He swarmed all over Bruno. He gave away weight, had nothing but balls really, and Bruno could do nothing about it. He just roughed Frank up, flustered him, stood on his chest, flapping away. Somehow Stuart cut himself against frank and they stopped him. It was an early embarrassment for Frank. There were moments in other fights where Frank would panic or fluster when he was rushed.. all in fights where he was the guy matched to win. Even that clown from canada, Lakusta he rushed Frank all over the ring and he did it with no power, no clean punching at all. Frank had to resort to illegal rabbit blows just to get into the fight. He could not cope with Pressure from nonentities. What he needed was somebody slower who stood off. Or a mover who liked to trade. Frank where ever possible was matched with less fighters with a swarming style because it did not compliment him. They were building a knockout artist and the idea was for him to meet guys that made him look good.
I didn't know we were talking about the 10 fight veteran Bruno. I had imagined we were discussing Prime Frank. I will have to re-read the OP. I assume in all fairness that Bruno will be matched with the 178 pound Rock who faced Bob Jefferson. And by the by, Frank was able to slip and slide and avoid most of the damage on the ropes and once he started turning and countering, old Stewie was out of his depth.
Wouldn't be surprised if Bruno either rattled Marciano badly in this one or did some serious facial damage with his underrated jab and hard shots. Bruno really brutalized several opponents. No, he didn't have "it" at a certain level but he wasn't a walkover for anyone. I don't think he'd win an actual fight, but people seemingly forget that Bruno did rattle the very best of the best with his power, he was a fighter you had to be careful with, and even in his losses, one against a consensus great fighter in Lennox Lewis, he really did make a great account of himself. He certainly got more out of his talent than plenty other of the other fighters of his generation.
Once Stewie slowed down some Frank could compete but against Rocky? And ok, this was Franks 10th fight or so, but he was as inept with Lakusta too until the rabbit blows came into play. And this was after he had made the ratings, right after the bones smith mishap.
Man, why does this forum always come down to one fighter just being **** on. That's not becoming of a fan, it's embarrassing.
One of the best post I have ever read on this site. Greatness. Kudos! Oh yeah, to you Bruno delusionalists, MARCIANO destroys your make believe hero. Gotta tell ya, here in the USA, everybody I know considered Bruno a chinny scared BUM!. Beating Rocky? LMFAO Bruno would probably get his ass flattened by Rocky LOCKRIDGE. First Cooney kos Rocky, now Bruno next Briggs. Incredible.
Come now, there's no question whatsoever that Marciano can knock him out in potentsia -it's a question of whether he can get close enough and land squarely enough or often enough. (My gut tells me very likely not.) On the other hand, there's zero question of who can outwork the other, and if anyone gasses it damn sure ain't going to be Marciano.
Rocky really brought his hard hat and lunch pail, had grit and monastic devotion to his training. He was a hard worker who was deceptively quick... Any more cliches y'all want to add?
I think you’ll find on here that there aren’t many if any Brit “Bruno delusionists” we are well aware of his shortcomings. I tell you one thing even though he’s one of my favourite fighters,as the years go by Rocky is just becoming a tad overrated on here. Also this thinking that Bruno was some kind of a choker who could be intimidated. Well for the evidence to the contrary just look at the first fight against the 220 pound wrecking machine that was Tyson, who came out decked him early but Bruno met fire with fire ended up hurting him and was unloading as much as Tyson at the end of the round. Sure he was eventually stopped on his feet but this isn’t a choker. He had success in the first 5 or 6 rounds against Lewis, Witherspoon and Smith hurting them all, if you choke that doesn’t happen. It’s well documented what his problem was it was plain and simply stamina and basically not knowing what to do when he was hurt, as McVey says he wasn’t really a natural fighter. Sometimes size is an issue, if Bruno was some 230 pound hopeless piece of meat then Rocky would no doubt simply blast him out, but he had a very consistent and extremely heavy jab, and he punched very hard with both hands. He hurt Tyson and Lewis 2 probably locked in top 10 ATG’s at heavy and two tough guys in Witherspoon and Smith so he can certainly cause Rocky a problem despite a perceived style issue. If Rocky got past the first 5 or 6 rounds then he could take it, i’m not sure he would though.
I did not say he was a choker. I said he was a FLAT OUT BUM. And yeah, you are delusional. Btw, don't even compare frontrunner, gutless never pulled victory from the jaws of defeat in his life one punch at a time quitter Tyson to the great UNDEFEATED MARCIANO! You Bruno Cooney and Tyson guys are wackjobs and historical fantasizers.
