"We're gonna teach em how to say goodbye..."

    We HOT!!!

This will be the final fight at home in Pensacola for RJJ, meaning any subsequent licensed pro boxing he does in the remainder of his protracted career will be fought on the road. He is 3-0 (2) since his most recent loss, when Enzo Maccarinelli knocked him cold two years ago in Moscow, and 11-1 (7) overall since his last major bout, when Denis Lebedev knocked him out, also in Moscow, nearly seven years ago. Sigmon, eighteen years Jr.'s junior at a strapping 30**, has vacillated between middle and super middleweight and will be jumping to cruiser to challenge the 90's middleweight legend. Sigmon is probably Jones' best opponent since Pawel [edit: Glazewski, not Kolodziej, beg pardon] in 2012.

** - Roy has a birthday coming up on January 16th, a couple of weeks before this event, so he will be 49 come fight night.

Wrong Pawel. It was Pawel Glazewski. Glazewski was undefeated at the time, and Roy was supposed to be a stepping stone for the Polish up and comer.

Ah, right you are. Why are there so many damn Polish cruiserweights with padded win columns? Impossible to keep them straight.

Yeah, Kolodziej actually shares with Jones the distinction of being kayoed by Lebedev. Small world.

Damn, I might be tempted enough to go up there and see it, only about 3 1/2 hours away.

Shot Enzo who sparked him >>> Golodziej

Glad that Roy is finally calling it a day.

Lol...et tu, UTF? Read it again, you made the same mistake as Fat Dan.

This is Roy's last dance IN PENSACOLA. He could be planning on a 5 year homestand in Russia for all we know. He could be going for the 100 win mark. He just won't be returning to action in one specific town in Florida anymore.

You think Cujo can break some hearts? He is basic as hell, but also strong and determined and packs a serviceable enough mandible to give Jones (pushing fifty now, remember, and with a style that demanded superhuman athleticism- which he did have in his prime, but maybe 15% of that remains) a hard 10. All of his stoppages were either in the late stages and/or corner retirements, and he's been in with a surprisingly high caliber opposition for a regional club fighter. Kelly Pavlik needed to throw the kitchen sink at him to take him out in the 7th, IIRC.

    Oh wait... I MUST'VE FORGOT!!!

That was the narrative on paper heading in, and the result ought to reflect it. Glazewski outfought him but Jones got a lifetime achievement gift that left everybody in the RBR thread - including diehard RJJ fans - baffled.

Many other journalists have also made the same mistake.

He's no intention of calling it a day in February. From what I've read, he'll really go all out for the Silva fight afterwards. Either way, he'll continue. But not only will he definitely fight on, in my honest opinion, he'll fight in Pensacola again, even if he has to come out of retirement to do so.

Honestly beating the likes of Sigmon at 49 would be considered a stand up and take notice accomplishment if some unknown did it. The fact of it being Jones and everyone being a little sick of his drawn out victory lap is what makes people look at matchups like this and turn up their nose. "Oh great another cherry pick". Guys, this isnt the Jones that fought Ruiz. This isn't even the one that nearly went the distance with Lebedev. This guy is pushing 50, literally just one year and one fortnight away from blowing out half a century's worth of candles on his cake. Let's maybe relax the standards & expectations just a tiny bit.

If he shuts out Sigmon or stops him the haters will be loathe to give him any credit but find me another guy on the doorstep of 50 that could.

(barring of course B-Hop the Timelord, who at 52 might be able to shake off the Smith cobwebs and come back to school a Sigmon)
