what's more, i don't think this view is in any way disrespectful to MMA nor is it premised on any comparison of MMA vs boxing--the fact is they are two different sports.

but i think what seems to confuse so many is that a boxer and mixed-martial artist, while different, are not different in the way that footballer and a tennis player are different.

the comparison is more like pole vault versus the decathlon. The decathlon includes pole vaulting, along with nine other events, many of which are drastically different in terms of mechanics, skill, training regimen, etc.--the shot put and the 1500 metre run, for instance.

the fact is that the decathlete, even one at the very top level, cannot compete with a world class pole vaulter.

This is true even if the decathlete used to be a pole vaulter. To compete in the other events comprising the decathlon, such as the shot put, and the 1500 metre run, the former pole vaulter will have to gain more muscle mass and spent a fair portion of his training time developing his aerobic endurance, which means his body is no longer optimized for one event and he has to constantly swap the focus of his training time and attention

 

It's not quite the shepherd's pie it's been made out to be but I think to describe it as average is being very generous indeed.

 

I like Khan as a fighter, but this screams of attention seeking behavior. He ain't coming back and he knows it.

 

If calling it average is "very generous" then its a "shepherds pie" to you sugar lol...I cant really defend it as there are plenty of examples of him wobbling, I just think its been 90% of the time against punchers. The Maidana fight impressed me I got to admit, considering what a beast MM went on to be. Khan was out on his feet but tried everything to stay in the fight !

 

Lightning fast hands, Heart of a lion, glass brain and less than average chin. That's how I see Khan. I can't rate anyone dropped by Limond as average. Willie makes Paulie look like Earnie Shavers.

Maidana's crudeness at that point in his career coupled with Khan's big heart allowed him to pull at that impressive W. I quite like Khan btw, I think he's dim witted but well meaning and inadvertently hilarious.

 

lol, yeah limond is a light puncher..As hes got older I've took to him more a bit personality wise. I think its like you say hes well meaning but just thick as ****, kinda harmless. Yeah MM improved too
