Kovalev said a couple years ago that Gvozdyk has the best chance at beating him. We shall see. It would be a wicked fight.

Im a big fan of the SMW division. Followed it from the start. Its a division I tend to know well and I find it amazing sometimes how posters who have no idea but still post comments about fighters they have not heard of.

If Gvozdyk can go to the body it would be very interesting. I think Kovalevs jab would win him the fight otherwise, stylistically beterbiev is the worst match up for kovalev IMO.

I also think it's not a coincidence that Ward announced his retirement shortly after Golovkin drew with Canelo. Had GGG dominated Canelo and stopped him early, a potential match-up between Ward and Golovkin would have still been a long shot, but it's something that could have reasonably been in play. But since Golovkin didn't destroy Canelo the way many were expecting, and since things were further complicated by a somewhat controversial draw, that more or less destroyed any hope of that fight ever coming to fruition.

Yeah, maybe that was a factor.

But there will always be young, up and comers who look like they will be big contenders.

For the guys at the top, it's a never ending treadmill. Either you jump off or fall off.

Anyone know what the context the statement/s was/were made in and the exact quote? Maybe he meant in regards to the most prominent up-and-comers at LHW being talented and a big risk with little return, I mean I don't know or follow pay out figures all that much but I highly doubt Bivol, Beterbiev, or Gvozdyk could come close to generating the type of money Ward would want and expect. I'd favor Ward clearly over any/all of them but they are all talented and skilled enough that nothing is a gimme.

By nature people are afraid of the unknown or a known quantity that leaves us feeling helpless/hopeless. The kid's style isn't anything he hadn't seen by age 18, sure he's talented, but again, Ward has faced plenty of talented guys for a VERY LONG time, it's not the athleticism. I mean, I'm sure he's seen and scouted all the young guys at LHW, he's seen how they fight and the skills they bring to the table, so Bivol isn't an unkown to him and he sure as hell isn't leaving Ward feeling helpless/hopeless.

Well Froch wasn’t very clear and this is why his statement is clearly from a place of bias and contempt for Ward.

He just said he wouldn’t wanna stand in front of Bivol so therefore Bivol probably influenced Ward into retirement.

See if Froch said after two back to back tough fights with a dangerous opponent and him getting up in age, not to mention the injury niggles over the past years I can see why Ward would be thinking about retiring rather than facing the tough upcoming talents like Bivol, that would be a fair statement for me.

Yeah Froch was a very good fighter but like I said he seems rather bitter towards Ward, if were Froch I would be praising Ward so i could say I beat everyone but I only really to the best.

Gvozdyk will fight according to the rules of boxing unlike SOB.....................there are no rules for SOB..........none at all...................hell, SOB could bring a baseball bat into the right and the referee would approve!
