Tony "The Tiger" Thompson's absolute schooling of David Price and Odlanier Solis. Orlando Salido's victory over Vasyl Lomachenko. Daniel Zaragoza's victory over Wayne McCullough. Roberto Duran vs Jorge Castro. Admittedly Castro wasn't a young prospect since his cherry got popped by Terry Norris and Roy Jones, but he was 17 years younger than Duran when they fought.

What about Purrity out lasting Wlad?

Maybe not a favourite but a good example of one.

Emmanuel Steward would beg to differ. He commented on the difference several times on HBO. Pointing out that the Winning gloves that Morales would make opponents wear were pillow like, and that you couldn't properly make a fist when wearing them, also that they had a well padded knuckle, compared to any type of punchers glove.

Yes this is the fight that comes to mind every time along with Foreman/Moorer.

Duran/Moore is another one. Duran was 32 and had to back to back losses the previous year to Benitez and Laing. Moore was younger, bigger and the favourite to win but was battered.

A W on the basis of what happened, or what you think would have happened in the ensuing rounds? Do you think Botha won the 10-rounder that actually transpired?

I've never been able to understand how people praise Botha/denigrate SBW on the basis of the 10 rounds that actually happened (as opposed to the shenanigans that led to it being 10 rounds and not 12). Botha lost like 7-8 rounds to someone who was literally not a boxer or any sort of fighter at all. A rugby player with no boxing background doing it as a money-spinning circus/freakshow. imo the unspoken narrative of that fight is how sort-of-impressive it was for a complete and absolute novice to actually outbox Botha.

SBW was never any sort of "prospect" on account of he wasn't a boxer!

I had it 95-93 SBW but he was nearly KTFO at the end and surely would have been in the eleventh had there been one, like there was supposed to have been. Even old as he was, Botha had the superior gas tank and was carrying all the momentum.

Wouldn't have lasted the distance anyways had he not been allowed to hold for the better part of 2 rounds..

Erik Morales vs Manny Pacquiao I

Morales was all but done by the time he met Pacquiao in the ring, with recent losses too an old past prime Barrera, and then a loss to a journeyman afterward.

Shot to smithereens Manuel ''Diamond Boy'' Charr schooling undefeated savage punching Swiss-based Albanian KO machine 22-0-0(20) Sefer Seferi after coming off a year of inactivity due to him literally having been shot in the stomach in a kebab shop by a gangster. And then just over a year later, after having had double hip surgery, Diamond Boy in a feat of almost superhuman strength, courage and fortitude won the world HW title when he slayed the fearsome Russian behemoth Alexander Ustinov who was 34-1 and outweighed him by 50lbs.
