Clinching is illegal, especially when you grab and tie up an opponents arms and don't let go. But it's rarely enforced. Why? Because no ref wants to slap a DQ on a fighter. It puts him in the spotlight and in hot water. No ref wants to gather his nuts and ref. Can you imagine if a ref gives a fighter a DQ loss for clinching in a major fight? People would lose their mind. Now you can say just take away a point. But after a ref has done that he's broken the seal. The next step after a point deduction is to DQ them. By taking away a point he's said look stop doing that. But clinchers don't stop clinching. Anybody who's ever seen boxing before knows that a clincher clinches, it's what they do. Clinching is tolerated because the refs don't have the balls to give a DQ.
When a ref is officiating a high level fight he is more inclined to let the bout go its way because he is refing the most experienced boxers Further down the bill I notice that refs intervene a lot more It is very rare for a ref not to have the balls It is not like football where half the people in the stadium want to plant one on his nose As a rule they are highly respected in this sport and that is a good line to promote the sport
Maybe it would work better with the ref able to keep taking single points away rather than DQing on the second deduction??
Could be true, but it's also a lack of balls. When a ref gives a DQ for clinching in a high level fight. That will take some massive conjones.
It's a business and the ref wants to do his job but if he DQs people he will be working far less high paying jobs than he wants to, so he/she tolerates a high degree of clinching. Can't go back now after the "Klinch"ko's reign. This content is protected
Well yea. The right thing to do is to DQ. You cannot grab your opponents arm and not let go. I can understand the occasion tie up around the body. But to grab the arm. That's a big no. And the refs don't have the balls to give a DQ. Can anybody point to notable DQ for clinching in a high level fight?
I was disappointed to see Rigo quit if for nothing else I was curious if Rigo would get a DQ. He clinched horribly for 6 rounds before a ref took a point. Would the ref have had the balls?
Yes we can go back, i like Wlad personally but his clinching style was boring to watch and i dare say not good for boxing. Not that i blame Wlad, its the lack of enforcement thats the problem. Who knows how horrid a fight Loma vs Rigo would of been if Rigo wouldnt of had a point deducted?
Yeah, Ward, Rigo etc clinch, its very boring. Just like your posts and your sense of humor you pretentious *****.
SOB clinches more than any fighter I have ever seen, but along with clinching, well, not clinching, holding, SOB wrestles, elbows, land a lot of low blows, hits behind the head and is an expert headbutt cheater! As far as Vlad, after he started training with Steward, he started clinching, the same with Lewis, Lewis vs. Tua was like ball roon dancing!
It's usually the home/featured fighter that gets away with it. Even holding/clinching/clamping and hitting. Which usually means the referee isn't afraid to take action, he just doesn't because he isn't impartial. The Wlad vs Pov fight was one of the few examples where the home fighter was victim of a referee not doing his job.
I blame Manny Steward for that. Before Klitschko hooked up with him Klitschko was actually a hard punching pressure fighter. After Steward he was a boring second coming of Lennox Lewis.
Great idea! A warning then a point after that its 2 points, then 3 etc but it has to be enforced. No waiting for the 10th clinch to warn them
That Klitschko video is horrendous. That's not boxing. No idea why Wlad had so many fans here, dull out of the ring and a stinker inside during his reign.
