BULL****! Learn your facts brother. Rossman got his ass kicked by Yaqui in March 1978 and in May 1978, GALINDEZ fought him for the second time and beat him again. As for Scott, all organizations decided to drop him because he couldn't leave prison. I lived in the Philly area in those years and saw all those Philly fighters and most of the AC fights live at ringside up to 1983. You just dislike GALINDEZ. GALINDEZ was way out of shape the first fight and actually weighed in naked. He thought Rossman was a joke. The reason they never fought a third time is Victor said Ross was a coward for quitting. Didn't matter anyway, Rossman got KOd his next fight by nothing Ronquillo who Spinks later tore apart with one hand. ROSSMAN was never anything more than an exciting clubfighter. GALINDEZ never won again after that. He lost to Johnson, Burnett, found out his eyes were damaged, retired took up racing rode with a driver in a race, their car stopped running like idiots they got out of the CAR ON THE TRACK another car came around slammed into them and their car and Argentino's national hero was dead October 1980. Viscous Victor GALINDEZ!!!!!!!!!!!

Where do you feel Galindez ranks all time at LHW, Morlocks?

Happy new years to you by the way, sir. Not sure if I got to say that before it occurred...

The two Galindez-Rossman fights were favorites of mine...I saw them both on home/free tv in the Golden 70's.
Rossman fought a great fight vs one of my favorite lightheavy champions in Galindez. That "false fight" that happened next was bizarre...Wide World did a feature on it, showing Rossman there in the ring, ready to go, but no Galindez across the ring from him. The actual rematch showed Victor giving it one more great championship effort...a revenge motivated effort...and he looked better than he looked for years in the process. I thoroughly enjoyed those two bouts...and wished that there had been a third go between them.....but really, that was Galindez's last gasp....there was nothing left of him when he fought Marvin Johnson...a guy he would have easily beaten just a few short years earlier.

You really think Galindez was just about completely done come age 31/1979? Not that I'm saying you're wrong.

Where do you rank Galindez? Does he constitute a truly special fighter?

Thx Happy New Year to you too. I think GALINDEZ could have fought with anyone in lt.-heavyweight history. That said, while Victor is one of my alltime favorites, I believe he is just below great. He competes with anyone but loses more than wins against the true 175 elites. Tunney, Charles, Foster, that type. But I think he would decision the elite Spinks. Non-elites he beats every time. The Ultimate Machismo Warrior. Viva GALINDEZ!!!! :) :) :) :) :) :)

Gentlemen: We need to start an on-going Post called:
"The Chite the ABC Sanctioning Bodies have pulled PAST, PRESENT, & FUTURE".
We could send Saad54's weekly comments to the ABC's to rattle their cages.
    (LOL !)

Back to Galindez & Rossman as fighters.
Rossman's candle burned brightly only briefly, but he
    was popular TV fightwise.
Galindez fought and beat the #5-#15 Lthvy fighters, but it must
be remembered that the 70's-early 80's was very deep and
#15 had a shot at winning in every fight.
Galindez missed John Conteh, James Scott, Saad Muhammad, and
Mate Parlov...but a lot of the "misses" may have been due to politics.

Oh I know it's always existed, right up to the present day, but that is something else.
    Absolutely shocking.

Hi Russell. Victor was a shell of his former self against Rossman. Perhaps 'Longhorn' can shed some light on the Rossman clan, around that time, nearly beating a guy to death in New Jersey and stuffing him into the trunk of a car. IMO he beat a faded Victor, gave a good post-fight interview (that n' a dime 'll buy you a cup of coffee), and, by all accounts, hails from a family of 'thugs'! My $0.02

    Hi Longhorn!
Galindez/Conteh was on the table for over a year...WBA/WBC politics 'squished' any chance of their fighting.
By the time Saad/Scott were ready Victor was already battle-worn.
Parlov? Even an aging Victor would have cleaned his clock IMO.

Take your meds and calm down. LOL.

    I don't hate Galindez

But the WBA was known for massive corruption and Galindez was a favorite son.

I don't let emotion override reason when discussing Saad Muhammad.
For example, I feel like Conteh was robbed in the first Saad Muhammad fight. He dominated until the late rounds, and Saad's strong finish was not enough, in my opinion.

Don't allow your love of Galindez to cloud your judgment.

Yes, I was wrong about the timing of Lopez/Rossman and Galindez/Lopez II.

Lopez did get his rematch after beating Rossman - and appeared to get robbed. I just watched it and scored in 145-140 for Lopez.

    This content is protected

That said, Rossman did nothing to earn his shot at Galindez - unless you think getting stopped by Lopez, stopping former contender Lonnie Bennett, who had been stopped in his two previous fights, or beating a shot Mike Quarry, qualified him.

There were better contenders out there at the time, like Saad Muhammad.
Saad had beaten Kates and Johnson, but had to beat Lopez and wait another 6 monts to finally get his overdue title shot against Johsnon. He should have gotten a title shot before both Johnson and Rossman, but didn't.

And, the circumstances of the postponement of Galindez/Rossman II were obviously reeking of corruption.

Galindez was a very good fighter. But, it certainly helped him to have the Latin Based WBA behind him, looking out for his interests. They were hardly objective.

This is the kind of important fact that get lost through the haze of time. Rossman seemed like a pretty clean clue, blue collar kind of guy, if you will. I never would have guessed. Then again, it's boxing, so why am I surprised?

Happy new year by the way sir, and thank you for the good post.

I am indeed a huge GALINDEZ fan. Also of Matt. Whom I saw live many times. That is why I won't comment on a fight between those 2. Probably both are in my top 10 favorite fighter ever. Btw, no meds, I spit them out when noones looking, but it takes me a long time to get out of that rubber room and pirate a computer outside the lobotomy room. Some respect for the effort please! Your friend R. P. McMurphy. I love when I finally reach the Classics forum because then The Mentally Defective League is in session...
