It was OK, but nothing to really write home about, even if Kovalev had been given the win, which he should have been.
The rigged scorecards prevented it from becoming a classic in my opinion. Classic fights shouldn't leave a sour taste after watching it.
I liked it, tactical, edgy etc. Totally opposite to say, Chisora vs Whyte which was BOMBS AWAY from minute 1.
I really liked the fight, but considering it was one of my most anticipated matchups of all time, it didnt live up to the hype to me. For some reason after watching it, the stock of both fighters lowered for me. Ward looked rusty and a bit physically a step behind for an elite fighter, and huge flaws were exposed in kova that made him look pretty bad, imo. So while I honestly think its one hell of a fight and it probably does rank somewhere in my lower top 20 fav fights of all time (maybe), it somehow left me somewhat disappointed.
not really. i love any fight where a fighter makes adjustments and comes back hard in the second half but it was hardly a classic
Yes for me it was a classic. When you see some one make adjustments the way Ward had to make after being knocked down and the first few rounds it was looking like an uphill task for Ward. Then to adjust the way he did and those body shots. Very good fight one for the purists though.
Just a world championship level fight imo. Very rewatchable for film study so yeah in a sense it's a classic
