There's really not a whole lot between Chavez Jr and Jacobs. Jr might edge him but Jacobs is clearly better boxer to the eye test. Billy Lyle , John Duddy , Sebastian Zebik , Manfredo , Rubio , Andy Lee are respectable to decent wins. Compared to - Ishe Smith , Jeff Fletcher , Turax , Mora , Quilin.
I can't even agree with myself in this debate, so that says something. After more thought I actually agree Sturm should probably be higher than Saunders for longevity which counts for a fair bit, it is razor close though. Sturm may have had more L's but he has such a huge amount of title fights It has to count for something, I also think Saunders could have had a few L's on his record too, but got the decisions. Saunders would have beaten Sturm h2h IMO but this is more resume/accomplishment based. Tbh the only position I am not debating is no1 which I think GGG is a lock at this point, all other positions are up for debate.
Not a lock yet. Hopkins was the man at MW 2001 - 2005. GGG was the #1 MW 2014 - 2018. He was never the MW Champion. If he beats Canelo in the rematch it'll probably be a lock then.
Schenk wasn't more than an german journeyman, Sylvester wasn't any special too and Barker was beaten by his own body. Agree the fights with Hoya and Geale were close but Sturm got so many gifts that it was only fair that Geale won the unification fight. Agree here Sturm got gifts vs Macklin and Gevor. Both fights with Tschudinow were close but I think Tschudinow won both And yes Abraham and Taylor should be ahead in accomplishment not sure about Pavlik beside his win's vs Taylor his MW resume isn't that special
how can you say sturm performed at the top level when he never faced any of the top MW's? he stayed on top in Germany defending paper belts against second tier fighters by a tried and tested formula, and still managed to lose to some pretty ordinary fighters
world title fights against second tier opposition sounds good when you say "world title fights", but his career was a scam with only one objective - to get rich sturm was fed to Oscar, and there's a delicious irony when sturm fought Oscar purely for the money, but was ultimately consumed by the ultimate cash cow of the time.
Are you talking about Felix Sturm or are you talking about someone else that's ranked significantly higher on everybody's list?
I've already explained to you why he deserves no respect as a MW there simply is no defence for a fighter whose sole purpose in life was maintaining his lucrative german TV contract, and taking the path of least resistance in doing so. the only people who would rate sturm as anywhere noteworthy on their list are those who haven't made a list of all the top active MW's during sturm's paper reign, and realize that he fought none of them
Yep this. Fact is you can't ignore all those losses to nothing but solid fighters like Geale, Soliman, Castillejo etc. Sturm never really stood out as being exceptional or even the top guy at any time. He was around a long time but wasn't even consistent he just kept on getting title shots. Would people favour Geale or Soliman to beat guys like Martinez, Taylor etc. Hell Sturm was losing to guys Golovkin and Taylor handled with ease.
thankyou! sturm should be the poster child for how boxing can be manipulated to be self-serving by deceiving fans of the sport. what wilder is doing at HW right now has a lot of parallels to sturm's career
