How long would 211 pound Jose Ribalta last with Tyson in a fantasy fight ?

Could he make it out of the 1st round ?

I know, I know they fought in real life and Ribalta almost lasted the 10 round distance but could he really repeat that performance where it really matters, in a fantasy fight ?

Tyson's head movement and defense would be on point all the time and he'd cut off the ring and close the distance within a few seconds. Ribalta at 211 was simply not strong enough to clinch Tyson in a fantasy fight and no way could he take Tyson's power.
At 211 and 6 foot 6 he'd be too skinny. His own power and durability were average and he simply would have nothing to stand up to Tyson with. He was kind of average all round.

NOBODY beats the unbeatable Tyson in fantasy fights. Straight KOs. Well maybe Gerry Cooney.

Trouble with Ribalta was the same problem Tony Tucker, Mitch Green , Carl Williams, Tyrel Biggs all had.

They were not “Oaf like” enough. With another 40lb those guys would have made fantastic Oafs. Just imagine all that hugging, holding and hitting, arm punching they could have had going for them? Instead they wasted their entire careers....

Instead of boxing and mixing it up they could have been leaning down onto shorter foes with a huge weight advantage.

If only trainers knew what they were doing then.

The magical era of oafishness had not been realised.

Ribalta withstood a frightful beating in the real fight. Give the guy credit for showing incredible toughness that night. Even though he still eventually got stopped.

Makes me wonder how long Buddy Baer would last with prime Tyson? My guess is it looks something like the Ribalta fight.

You do know Mike Tyson is the only fighter in the history of the sport to enter the ring not in 100% condition right?

How long would Don Cockell last in a fantasy fight with Marciano? How about Bill Brennan against Dempsey? Boxers, both victors and the defeated, are not static elements. Sometimes they go through the motions. Sometimes they show up as never before.

All you can do is make an educated guess and come to a logical conclusion. You could in fact be wrong and we see this all the time. For instance, if Schmeling and Louis never rematched, who would've picked Louis to win in 1 round via KO?

If this were December 1972 and the internet and boxingforum24 was around, if we were discussing the upcoming Fraizer/Foreman fight in January 1973, anyone picking Foreman to end the fight in 2 rounds via a one sided massacre would be considered a lunatic. A mad man speaking nonsense. Everyone would compare the resume's of which Fraizer's was clearly superior, point out that Foreman struggled with light heavy Peralta while Fraizer steamrolled Bob Foster, ask what fighter nearly as good as Fraizer did Foreman ever steamroll, some would point out that Bonavena and Quarry were "clearly superior" to anyone Foreman had beaten and to Foreman himself who never beat anyone in the top ten. Predictions would've been made about how Quarry and Bonavena would've danced on Foreman's head in the center of the ring.

But lo and behold, come fight night, despite all of the above, Foreman vanquishes Fraizer in a 2 round massacre. But you'd have had to see it to believe it. My grandfather, who was close to my age in 1964 when Liston was about to fight Ali, just knew that Liston would plaster Ali. After all, it was still fresh in everyone's mind that Ali had barely escaped Doug Jones and had a near miss s Henry Cooper. If Cooper's left hook had Ali seeing stars, imagine what Liston's left hook would do when he landed it???

Ali had just struggled with 2 fighters that Liston likely would've left laid out on the canvas, also Liston had the superior resume and had just annihilated Floyd Patterson in 1 round. Patterson, who at the time, was considered clearly superior to Ali. After the Cooper and Jones fight, Patterson likely would've been considered the heavy favorite over Ali.

Going with the information we had at the time, most on here would pick Liston via early KO over Ali. Ali out boxing Liston decisively was something we had to see to believe.

The same with Tyson/Spinks. If this were June 26, 1988, the day before the big fight, no one would be picking Tyson via 91 second 1st round, 10 count KO. Even if you were picking Tyson to win via KO, you'd have probably picked him after 4 or 5 rounds.

And if they had never fought and we had a Tyson vs Spinks thread, anyone picking Tyson via 1st round KO would be considered a Tyson fan boy. After all, Spinks had never been floored, let alone stopped in 1 round.

Many on this board would think that an early 90's Ray Mercer would be thoroughly and decisively out boxed and clowned and made sport of by a 1966 Muhammad Ali. And this wouldn't be a baseless assumption. But what if I owned a magic genie and wished for a prime Mercer vs prime Ali fight and Mercer stopped Ali like he did Tommy Morrison? Pre-fight, many on here would consider that a far fetched, way out in left field prediction. One that you'd have to see it in order to believe it.

I'd pick a young Tyson to quickly stop Tommy Farr. But Farr may pull a Tillis. But my pick is based on the known factors and a resulting logical conclusion. If I could perfectly predict the result of fights, I'd quit working and instead get very rich by bankrupting Las Vegas.

Most of all I wonder how long a skinny blonde guy with a Mohawk would last with a 30lb heavier Lennox Lewis...

I bet Lewis would give that hapless chancer a real walloping and close the show real early.

Then again, if Mavrovic was 30lb heavier than Lewis it would not be a fair fight...

I've never actually watched this match, but have always heard it was a frightful beating. Is it really that bad?

    Very good post.

Michael Spinks was supposed to be a real test but he fared even worse than Tony Tubbs...
