Before you pick Liston almost by default, think about the fact that AJ is a SKILLED super heavy power puncher that's 6'6 250 pounds that has good speed and technical skill who had quicker hands than Liston. Liston would be 6'1 212 pounds and while powerful would have to work around 5 inches of height and 38 pounds of muscular weight. I'm not saying Liston loses, but I want you to make an educated guess and not one based on historical bias.

I've thought about it and I'm going with...
    Liston by KO. Sorry.

Hardly fair on Joshua. He's still green by pro standards. He has talent and if he remains focussed he could become the dominant heavyweight of his era. At the moment though that's about what he could become. In terms of what he is now, I don't think he could live with Liston.

I'm not impressed by Joshua's skills but he has time to improve. Maybe 2018 may see that.
(I'm not as sure as some that he will improve though. I won't be massively surprised if the Wlad fight remains as good as he gets).

Prime Sonny Liston would knock this big kid out. It might be a war but Liston has the jab and defense and composure to close the show.

Skilled compared to who? Joe blow on the street? Liston would DESTROY the big but novice skilled Joshua, and it wouldn't be pretty. Joshua had a height and weight advantage but Liston had a reach advantage. And that would nullify the height advantage. Joshua is built like a body builder(probably the reason he tires so quickly) Liston was like a tank with long arms. Theirs nothing Joshua does that Liston wouldn't have seen before, and yet he makes plenty of mistakes a well schooled pro fighter could and would capitalize on. Liston within 10rds if Joshua isn't intimidated even earlier if he is.

Ooohh.. I just saw a cool highlight compilation of Liston with really dramatic jumpcuts to a soundtrack. I'm gonna pick him.

By the way, how come nobody ever makes lowlight compilations?

Liston was knocked down and lost in the same fight to a 180 pounder.

How does he handle someone 70 pounds heavier 5 X more skilled 5X as powerful compared to that guy?
    :dance1::dance1::dance1::dance1::dance1::dance1::dance1::dance1::dance1:

How would he react himself to a SHW who's about 40 pounds heavier and 5 inches taller? Still think he's the big bear in this fight? :nonono

If you are referring to the Marshall fight I have yet to see this KD verified. What fight of Marshall's have you seen to confidently state that Joshua is 5 x times more skilled?

A knock down wouldn't exactly mean much anyway...was his broken jaw verified? Was his loss verified?

Do you think Joshua would even fight a guy like Marshal and be bothered with him?

The right hand or uppercut was the easiest punch to land on lunging Liston or crouching Liston who often didn't even look up when doing this...he's getting put to sleep!

Its been verified on multiple sites / articles. Again it wouldn't matter .

Of course 60's Liston was tougher but I see no fight to suggest he comes close to any version of Joshua who's still going to overwhelm him.

Joshua is slow.. and it's not good idea against liston. Liston face diffilculty against mover.

The question is who will quit first..

I believe liston is better than takam.
& joshua maybe better than williams, stronger & bigger.

I was wondering where you were at. Don't forget to visit the 1934 Max Baer vs 1988 Tyson thread.

The Marshall fight was fight 8 for Liston in '54 .. Including amateurs, Liston has only been boxing for basically 2 years.. The thread is Liston in '60, PRIME for Sonny.. Don't see why people bring up the Marshall fight to begin with ... unless that is their only amo for AJ beating Liston, hey look at the Marshall fight in '54

Where did you get the idea that Joshua would be intimidated by any opponent, never mind one he dwarfs?
I think this is some wishful thinking on your part. Joshua isn't nice guy Floyd Patterson.

I doubt I've watched all the available footage on Liston and am by no means an expert on his career. From what I have seen though, impressive as Sonny and his Dhalsim arms are, I don't see how he turns an ultra confident, unbeaten, 250lb knockout streaking powerhouse into a quivering wreck begging for a quick execution from the dinky little old guy in the opposite corner.

To be honest I think if either man was to swallow here it would be Sonny. I make Joshua a heavy favourite and wouldn't expect it to go the distance.

I really dislike judging an incomplete work like Joshia. He may turn out to be a one hit wonder or an all time great. None of us know. I feel he is not exactly imaginative, not as powerful as his physique suggests and carries too much weight.

Likewise, Sonny can be clumsy and unimaginative and demonstrate poor punching form while rushing for a KO.

At this point I am taking the more experienced and proven guy. In 10 years it could go the other way.
