A rare occurrence, but sometimes a fighter rises after a punch that would in most cases result in a knockout... only to immediately be dropped again with an equally devastating bomb.

It doesn't happen too often, but always sticks in my mind when it does. A good, fairly recent and relevant fight that's a perfect example of what I'm talking about here is Donald Curry against Milton McCory.

Milton is knocked down with a devastating, picture perfect left hook. I thought that punch was definitely the end of the fight the first time I saw it. McCrory goes down, and struggles to make the count... It becomes irrelevant moments because the next punch that Curry lands, moments after McCrory stands is a massive right hand as he skillfully closes the distance between himself and again lashes out with serpentine like speed. Basically, he's knocked completely out of his senses twice.

An much more recent example is Enzo Mac somehow managing to end up being knocked out up at cruiserweight twice in one fight. Brutal stuff, and a shame all at the same time considering Frenkel would never fight again... just a few years before the division really took off.

Hearns-Barkley 1. It should have been stopped after the first knockdown but the second one put Hearns through the ropes.

Not knocked out twice but definitely appeared to be stopped twice, Danny Lopez-Mike Ayala.

Possibly the worst refereeing job I've ever seen!

Duran v Bizarro. Bizarro was practically dead but somehow made it to his feet. The referee should have stopped it but let it go on and Bizarro took a hellacious right hand from Duran that flattened him completely. Awful refereeing.

Medical studies have shown it to be extremely damaging to be concussed a 2nd time so soon after being concussed the 1st time.

1976-05-23 : Roberto Duran 133¼ lbs beat Lou Bizzarro 134 lbs by KO at 2:59 in round 14 of 15
    • Location: County Field House, Erie, Pennsylvania, USA
    • Referee: Waldemar Schmidt
    • Mandatory defense by Roberto Duran of Panama of his World Boxing Association World Lightweight title he won from Ken Buchanan in 1972.
    • Saw this bout on television. Shown on YouTube several decades later. Roberto Duran had to come to Erie, Pennsylvania, to fight highly ranked contender Lou Bizzarro, who did a masterful job of running away, and holding when Duran came in close. Eventually, Duran cut off the ring. The end came when Bizzarro, his eyes bruised and battered and swollen shut, clung to Duran's legs after the final knockdown. It was a courageous show by Bizzarro, but Duran's jabs had lightning fast speed, and slowly but surely found their target and took Bizzarro apart.

I saw the Duran/Bizzarro fight listed in a, article on a boxing site, about the most brutal modern fights they had seen.

    Is it that bad?

Is it really that bad? Don't think I've ever actually seen it.
