I'm not a guy who goes out of his way to rag on Floyd. On the contrary, there's a lot of BS involved in most of the 'Floyd ducked _____' stories. But Mayweather and/or his inner circle were much more inclined to steer around Tony than to face him.

I respectfully disagree, and I strongly disagree. I think the match-up favored Floyd tremendously.

The respect is mutual. On paper, I can see why many feel as you do, I just see a much harder fight in practice. There's evidence to suggest that Floyd's people felt as much, too - and, for that reason, this bout is one that sadly got away (I think even those who strongly favor Floyd in the hypothetical can still realize that Margarito would ultimately have added more substance to Floyd's ledger than did Tata).

He was also far less skilled than either of them, less athletic, painfully slow, and much easier to hit with no defense to speak of whatsoever. I think Floyd would have had a field day with Margarito. Had Margarito continued winning, we would have seen that fight sooner or later, but he didn't. Margo's extreme limitations were exposed by much lesser talents than Floyd.

I think both of those guys had quicker feet than Tony. He looked like he had plaster of Paris in his boots as well as his gloves.

I agree. I was harsh on Floyd. And some was legitimate. I think he often chose the safer route to titles. But that's just boxing today. 7 titles per weight class!

Toney was slow of hand, but not necessarily feet. Watch him versus Cotto again to see how fleet footed he was at times.

Nah, he probably would have shut out Margo. Margo's march-forward style would totally negate his height and reach advantage. Play right into Floyd's style and ability. Paul Williams would have wrecked Floyd though.

Too many weight classes, too many alphabet soup bodies.

    Floyd would have Mosley-fied Margo.

Williams.....THAT'S a different story or rather could have been different.

Weight classes I am fine with. It's the "Everyone get's a belt!" mantra that ruins it.

Yep, loading up on power punches is how Floyd fights. Good point....

I dislike both almost equally, where I'd ultimately agree with you. Too many belts is AWFUL. But almost as awful is the additional weight classes. I think 9 would be ideal (the original 8 + cruiser). Because all of these belts, and all of these divisions - these are things that just give fighters more wiggle room to play politics.
