How big of an upset was Khan-Prescott?

Firstly is was a case of homework. Khan entered that fight with absolutely zero concern that he was boxing a dangerous puncher. It was an upset for those that weren't aware of prescotts power (most of us) but it was bad bad management. Not the fact that khan was in with Prescott but the fact he and his team didn't regard him as dangerous and box accordingly

 

It was probably the best thing to happen to him at that time. He got careless and it was a much needed reminder of his vulnerability. He got his act together after that and built himself back up.

 

Yeah bit of a learning curve for khan it was

At times, for a chap with a gammy chin, khan can try and be too macho lol

He learns for 4 years then forgets He got knocked out in 2008, 2012 then 2016. Next one due in 2020.

At the time it was a shock...... Now with hindsight it wasn't a surprise at all.

His Cuban trainer for the fight, Rubio I think?.... Seemingly told Khan to go out and go toe to toe with Prescott. I find that hard to believe.

I remember it well, khan got in a fancy new trainer, which later came out that he was Prescotts old trainer, I think some people made themselves a lot of money.

It was supposed to be business as usual for khan, I can remember being stood in the pub about half an hour before the first bell and they showed Prescott on the pads and I thought ‘Jesus! Khan has got his hands full here! This bloke looks a bit tasty!?’

And then the rest is history

 

The writing was on the wall for Khan in that fight and he never took it seriously, instead just went about his way of playing the superstar loving up to the cameras etc, and ignoring/dismissing him as nothing.

On the other hand, Prescott was being shown as the man who lives in terrible conditions in his country, even showing where he sleeps etc etc

Khan ignored it when he should have thought "Hang On" this guy must be desperate, and desperate is dangerous...

That is the danger that comes with thinking it will all come on a plate, and when it goes wrong, you look a right cnut...

 

Wasn't Khan down against Michael Gomez and Willie Limond early on? In fact with Limond, something tells me Khan got a ridiculously long count and all. So the fact he was KO'd wasn't a surprise to many. Prescott was unknown but he had loads of KO's. That combined with Khan's already proven lack of whiskers wasn't a huge upset by my books.

Mind you didn't expect him to go in the first. Great entertainment!

 

Don't think I have or will ever enjoy a round of boxing more than that one - an absolute joy from the first bell to the count of 10.
