Bad career choice

    Tony tucker was 28 years old and took almost 2.5 years off after the tyson loss! He was a very very good Boxer, in his prime that night and should have gone right back into the gym afterward and gone after a rematch or a fight vs a contender asap.
    I suspect he gave it his best shot and he figured that tyson was only going to get better and he kind of gave up and like some other tyson victims didnt become relevant again until after tyson lost to douglas.
    Still he was really good and to just quit in your prime and not fight for 2.5 years seems idiotic.

    I also think Leonard should have kept fighting frequently after kevin howard. Of course he didnt feel good. He was rusty. I quess he could only get up for the big fights.

    Good observations. I think you're right about Leonard. He said as much in his autobiography, I think. I feel we missed out on several great fights that he oukd have had between '84 and '86.

    Amir Khan is someone more recently who seems to have made terrible career choices - particularly over the last three to four years of his prime.

    Had Roy Jones retired at 34 after capturing the WBA heavyweight belt we would be discussing him as being in the Top Ten Pound of Pound rankings.

    IMO, Marvin Johnson after not taking a cheap payday before facing Mathew Muhammad in the rematch.

    The worst one I can think of is Juan Manuel Marquez going out to Indonesia to fight national hero Chris John for 10k instead of taking an immediate rematch with Pacquiao.

    Ward being sidelined during his prime because of his contract dispute?

    I think moving up to 147 was a big mistake for Bronzer

    Fair call but i don't think fighting Holmes at that stage helped him much outside of loot.

    I don't blame Joe for Marvis taking on Holmes, it was for the IBF title. Now taking on Tyson was a little bit different story.
