    Good quality for this fight:

Retzlaff actually does well until he tastes the first flush power shot.

How short, sharp, fast and incredibly well timed was that left hook? Pure devastation. He was easing back and wasn't even fully planted when throwing.

    198lb

Some of the 30’s cameras seem to remove 50 lb.

If you understand how to move and how your body weight shifts, it is pretty easy to punch hard when sliding back. Especially if you can get a guy to come straight to you.

That last series of punches on the ropes is very similar to the second Schmeling fight.

This fight to me looks like what Foreman or Liston would look like if they had impeccable hand speed and punching speed.

Louis throws the same power as them, but the speed in which the punches connect is something else.

And also especially if you have a very well developed shoulder snap punch. You are far less limited in what kind of position you have to be in to land your power.

Retzlaff should be the poster boy for why you don't lead with a left hook from outside. He threw the long left hook and walked/stumbled right into the Louis left hook. He never saw it.

What? Louis leads with the left hook as soon as Retzlaff gets up.

Leading with the left hook is something that probably every single boxers has ever done, from Sullivan to Wladimir.

Ever heard of a dude named Floyd Patterson? He would probably have some issues with your left hook from the outside theories. As would Cus I’m sure.

I can't believe he weighs 198 pounds. Look at his skinny arms and legs!
What's your source? It's been my experience (as a photographer many
years ago) that film and photos (the old kind) ADD not SUBTRACT
weight. TV actors have remarked they look "fatter" on the screen.

No he did not.in fact .louis and dempsey were ring side for the norton -foreman fight and both them said that foreman was the most powerful puncher that they ever saw

Louis was so incredibly explosive look at that barrage to end the fight. He was a monster. And credit to Retzlaff he was game.
    Thanks for posting
