Benn fighting sugar boy in a rematch after barley getting a draw in the first fight.Bruno taken on spoon .Even when I was a kid I thought this was a bad idea.
The last 13 years of Roy’s career have greatly diminished how fans view him. That said, I truly believe Roy is an ATG. He’s a stylistic puzzle for other ATGs. Not saying they couldn’t solve him, but he’d have his share of success along the way. Imagine how popular he’d be if his prime coincided with social media. He was truly amazing. To anyone who disagrees, Roy’s right “y’all must’ve forgot.”
Of course hes an Atg just not top 10 p4p. But he proved his heartand courage in the tarver fights. Before that people were asking if he even loved the sport. Besides. People forget that roy got brain damage from not not taking enpugh time off after a concussion according to emmanuel steward and dr margaret goodman. And the proof is in the pudding. After the first tarver fight he barely ever got knocked down, wobbled or stunned like a regular chinny fighter. He goes from completely fine to completely asleep in a way that is not normal. He should havenever fought Johnson that soon after the tarver KO loss. That finished him. His coordination wasnt back yet, he couldnt evenmpven move. He lost every round absprbing punches against the ropes until the little punch resistance he had recovered after the tarver rematch was wiped out again by a shot the viewer wouldnt have even noticed landing
David Price fighting a legit contender in Tony Thompson and totally derailing his career. Helped Wilder's team stick to the script. Tommy Morrison throwing away 8 million with Lewis by taking Benntt match
Top 10 P4P is a difficult status to obtain. I don’t believe any of the fighters we’ve seen in the last 20 years come close to qualifying for the following reasons: 1. They don’t fight enough. 2. The promoters protect their fighters from other promoters’ fighters. 3. The best don’t fight the best. 4. They don’t fight 15 rounds. This has a significant impact on the outcome of fights. Imagine how different things would be without Louis KO13 Conn, Marciano KO13 Walcott, and Leonard KO14 Hearns.
I thought it was for a Snickers and a picture of a pig drinking grease, but ten grand sounds more accurate when I think on it. Poor Juan, probably the real reason why he drank his own **** tbh. Couldn't afford the water.
Dave Charnley being chucked in against prime Griffith was harsh, shocking management from Arthur Boggis. 50s lightweight Len Matthews was marketed as the next Robinson and his team matched him up as such, the result being a thorough beat down from Carlos Ortiz ending with a billion punch combination while Matthews was spark out on his feet. Paret taking on Fullmer and the subsequent pasting he got is viewed as contributing heavily to the terrible consequences of the Griffith fight, which takes some licking as a bad/tragic choice if true. Lora hung around way too long at bantamweight. It resulted in Perez outhustling him down the stretch, but he didn't learn and hung around at the weight only to get iced by Gaby Canizales, which ended him as a top fighter.
Tony Tucker: My right hand was broken when I fought him I knew Tyson couldn’t beat me. A couple days before I was sparring against a guy named Young Joe Louis. This guy was doing a lot of talking bad about me. I heard this from my sparring partners. So I chose him to spar against first because I was gonna put him down. I was hitting him real good when I heard a pop in my hand When I went back to the corner I knew I had hurt it bad. The doctor said I had a small hand fracture. They said I would need therapy and to not use it for ten days. I had to fight Tyson in less than that. I went in determined though. I was very apprehensive to attack Tyson due to the hand. I hit him with a right uppercut early and my hand just shattered. It was the worst pain ever. I still went on though, that’s why I did all those antics and everything. I was supposed to beat this guy, but how could I with one hand. With two hands I would have knocked Mike Tyson out. BoxingInsider.com: After that fight your career was never really the same, you were off about two years. What was going on? Tony Tucker: I had managerial problems. I was out in Hollywood hanging out with a lot of the stars. I started using drugs and stuff too.
Chad was the one that called Ward out and said he'd go down to 168 to fight him. He unfortunately put himself in that position.
Kelly Pavlik fighting Bernard Hopkins at catchweight. Larry Merchant and Jim Lampley described Pavlik corner as greedy and going for the money when they should have been fighting contenders at MW.
No. Despite coming off high ratings and beating Hopkins cleanly in the rematch, Chad got something like 30% of the money to fight at Ward's weight, in Ward's hometown. If that sounds negligent of his team, that's because it was. It's also worth noting that James Prince was on both sides of the fence, managing Ward while still having an ownership interest in Dawson.
A fighter has a team to protect him- this isn't WWE where TV callouts count for anything. As mentioned in my post above, his team didn't look out for him in any fashion for that fight. They screwed him over because they figured it was better business to turn it into a showcase for Andre.
