140 should be where the fight is, but 138 is fine, too. Weight won't be a factor in this fight. Age will.

I think weight would be a factor. We might look at Manny as a small welter, but he's had the comfort of weighing in between 140 and 147 for a long time, and having to cut below that would be significant at almost 40 years of age. I mean, I don't think he's walking around under 150 these days, whatever Freddie may say.

Manny has too much experience for me to sleep on if the fight were held at 147. But if he has to touch numbers on the scale that he hasn't touched in a decade, I believe it tilts things Loma's way.

Could be. He might not be big compared to welters, but he is bigger than Loma, is still physically capable (even in his athletic deterioration, he's still faster than most guys) has tons of experience and can bang (notwithstanding the lack of stoppages against bigger guys since 2010). I'd pick him to win, anyway.

It’s simple, he needs money to “fuel” the gravy train. I wonder if Freddie will demonstrate the integrity of his mentor (Eddie Futch) and walk away from this train wreck.

Well if someone has to stick a fork in Manny, it might as well be Lomachenko.

Recent pics of Pac (the one in the middle is from 5 days ago). Dude is definitely tiny (see him next to the flyweight Jerwin) and walks around under 150.

I doubt he'll make less than what he made vs Jesse Vargas. So I dont see how money will be an issue
Yea Pac fighting McG will guarantee a big payday but that ship has sailed, at least for now I dont see the Irishman back in the ring. First he has to break from the UFC somehow.

    He was reported to be at 153 on the set of Wapakman, prior to his camp for Cotto, and he was as svelte back then as he is now;

I can imagine there being some variance in his walking around weight, but not wildly so. 150-155 would be about right for a healthy man of his height/density.

There are levels to this game. You don't think Pac has the speed, combinations, accuracy to put Loma on his ass? Sure Loma can look pretty against C level fighters, and a very small Rigo but I seriously doubt he can do all that to someone like Pac. Pac is the wrong style for him. A guy who can crack and has the power to land.

I hope this fight happens, you'll see what I mean, Loma likes the thinking game where he can beffudle his opponent, when someone comes at you with as much pressure as Pac, your gonna get caught. He caught Floyd clean twice in their fight and had him backed into the rope, Floyd has about 20lbs on Loma.

He's fat off season. There really isnt any difference in his weight between now and when he fought Hatton and he weighed in at 138. He weighs in to WW bouts at 142/143 whilst having breakfast, realistically the guy could sweat down to 135 if he wanted to - he just doesn't want to.

This is an excellent, intriguing fight and it's a perfect challenge for Manny.

Manny currently weighs in at 145lbs for WW fights. His ring weight is 150lbs. He isn't cutting any weight! He can easily make 138lbs.

The last thing that a 39yr old Manny Pacquiao needs is to fight a prime Terrance Crawford at 147lbs. A much bigger man with murderous punching power, speed and skill. We all know how that fight ends after seeing the Horn fight. What's exciting about that??

Loma on the other hand is a prodigious talent, but he's not a deadly puncher and they are similar in size (pac is heavier and longer, Loma is taller). Pac may win by KO (he'll be a much deadlier puncher at 138 than 147) or he may be comprehensively outboxed. It's a SOLID fight on ESPN!

    I'm pumped. Hope it happens.

If anyone were to furnish me with a precedent of a man returning to a weight he hadn't fought at for nine years to box at world level with positive results, I'd be more inclined to reconsider my position. I can't recall a single instance of that kind of circumstance going well for anyone who attempted it.

Pacquiao is near 40 years of age and his body is very used to coming onto the scales between 143 and 147 pounds, as that's what he's been doing for almost a decade. Shedding more weight than that at this stage is absolutely tantamount to shedding more than is good for his performance. 140 would be a sacrifice for Manny, but can be argued as a fair one if this fight is to be made, given that Loma is coming from 130. 135, though... That's a Zombie Pac entering the ring.

Oscar showed he could sweat down to 145 if he wanted to. He also showed, after 8 years of weighing in between 154 and 160, that it was detrimental to his chances of entering the ring in good fighting health. There's a reason why he tried to gradually climb down with a soft bout at 150, ahead of an anticipated rematch with Mayweather or a meeting with Cotto for their respective 147lb titles, and even that didn't help him. That Stevie Forbes, who wasn't known for power, left him with a hairline fracture in his face was a warning sign. Men who lose more weight than is healthy for them become more fragile.
