That means Larry fights vs Bonavena, QuarryX2, Ellis, Mathis, BugnerX2, Lyle, FrazierX3, NortonX3, Foreman, Shavers, Young among the others. How does he do against that opposition? How many losses would appear on Larry's record? Lets say he'd be 28 in 1970 and 36 in 1978.
I could see 2 losses to peak Norton and maybe a draw. I myself would favor that version of Foreman narrowly. I can also see two losses to Frazier. Young would be awkward for Larry at 33 too as he had slowed down substantially. Shavers at 35 would be potentially tough. Leon at age 36 around or post Michael Spinks time would be very tough in the first bout with his workrate. I can see 6 losses and some close fights around them.
when we do these hypothetical fights... do people ever consider that the judges will give out some absurd decisions/?... while I have not see the fights between Ali and Norton.. I hear that some of the decisions were bad.. so going back in time and not being the established "name fighter" could definitely hurt Larry in some of these fights....
I think he'd beat all of them except joe frazier, and possibly not foreman, I've always wondered how Larry Holmes would do against george foreman
You forgot about ron lyle. Lyle was stylistically a hard fight for holmes,a durable strong guy with a hell of right hand and holmes would not be in his prime.lyle was sparring partner of Holmes ,Ali and Frazier
Norton was more a marvis Frazier than marvis Frazier ever was, and would probably be about evenly matched with holmes
I think FOTC Frazier beats him. I think Holmes wins the others, but with tough fights from Norton and Jimmy Young. The Foreman match is intriguing - Ali was 32 when he fought Foreman; Holmes was 32 in 1981-82, around the time of the Cooney fight. I believe that version of Holmes beats Foreman, more in the way Jimmy Young did it rather than rope-a-dope. I can see that Holmes taking an exhausted Foreman into the later rounds and perhaps stopping him.
Larry holmes never ever had the style of jimmy young, he was more aggressive(big mistake facing foreman) he was less elusive (big mistake facing foreman). And holmes neither had the chin of Ali.Foreman was no cooney, ridiculous mention an insult for george
He would be tough for sure. I don't think he'd beat 82 Holmes tho. He wouldn't have enough overall toolage.
Please... do send me a daily email about how to run my life..... its good to know there are people still out there telling others how to run their life...
You can make what you want with your life but if you don't know the basic about boxing what are you doing here?.
Holmes wins 2 out of 3 with Norton and Frazier, beats Foreman but has to rise from the canvas to do it.
Again... you are making assumptions about me... just because a person does not watch a particular fight that you have seen allows you to have the arrogance to state ... that I don't know any of the basics of boxing... did you see fight #43 or any other boxing match that I have seen? ....so does it make sense for me to say u don't know about the basics since u did not see the fight?
