Those Tyson "sparing sessions" look better than some of today's so-called Heavyweight fights.

Holmes was his best performance imo, he was fleet footed almost like a ballet dancer. When he came at holmes it looked like he was levitating.

A lot of Kronk footage came over some years ago showing a lot of top talents going at it at a good clip.

More recent, I know James Toney has a filmed sparring session that's supposed to be as good as an actual fight... against Green, perhaps?

Can anyone tell me what’s the point of Tyson wearing that particular sparring head guard? It cover his ears and the top of his forehead but that’s it. His entire face including his chin, his eyes and brows are totally exposed to incoming punches. I thought the whole point of headgear during sparring was to protect you from possibly getting cuts and putting the upcoming fight in jeopardy?

I suspect it was a preference and is reminiscent of the Dempsey era, thicker cheek protectors and the lower foreheads in my experience were problematic in sparring because they would move a little and have to adjust them during sparring....they are harder to see out of and have blind spots.

So he could see. The headgear that comes down to protect the brows makes it hard to see if you keep your chin down, almost impossible if you are bobbing, weaving and looking up.

If you recall, Tyson suffered a severe cut while sparring Greg Page. After that he began using traditional headgear, and right after that he started standing straight up in fights.
