Alan Minter who beat Vito, verses Iran Barkley and Julian Jackson? If he was defending against these two bangers in London would he be walking away with the belts ?
Minter had a durable chin and his weakness was cuts. Minter came from a era of tough British MW. Minter beat Kevin Finnegan 3 x ( Hagler said it was one of his toughest opponents ) and beat Vito Artoufermo twice. Minter wins if he doesn't get busted up by Jackson or Barkley wins on pts. Though a Gratien Tonna like result wouldn't surprise. ( Power punching Frenchman who stopped Minter on cuts. )
I can see him beating Barkley ,maybe on points or even a late stoppage. Jackson s a different kettle of fish .I wouldn't be surprised if minter , after going great for a few rounds , gets tagged hard by Jackson .similar to the sibson ko .
There`s no way he could take the power of Jackson! Better chance vs Barkley who was outboxed by Kalambay I think but Minter was no Kalambay! Jackson hit way harder than Vito.
Jackson would KO Sibson but I think Barkley would be way too tough for Minter stop, surely there were fighters that went the distance with Alan that weren`t as tough as Barkley! Having said that Minter did hurt Hagler I just don`t think he was a clever finisher.
Jackson KO`d Graham with the greatest one punch KO since Robi knocked out Fullmer and Graham was far more elusive than Minter, he even sparred with Alan with his hands tied behind his back and Minter couldn`t land a shot, Graham was good enough to give McCallum problems and the body snatcher would have decisively beaten Alan.
I am glad that you think so. I disagree....I don’t get that impressed by Jackson at 160 TBH, especially not in power although the KO against Graham was perfect. Minter is someone I admittedly have enjoyed watching for years and may even have an unexplainable bias for? I think he is the naturally bigger and stronger man, even if he lacks the one punch power of JJ. His unorthodox stance would trouble JJ and Minter would out tough him. Outside of cuts I would only give Jackson a small chance of beating Minter. I think Barkley would be the tougher fight and Minters underrated skills would again take a decision.
Minter could win he out work Barkley and and outbox Jackson .Alan was a decent all rounder and a better technican than these two .of course both Barkley and Jackson were both dangerous but if Minter didn't get into a brawl or walk into a sucker punch he could win a decision or late stoppage.
Did Minter ever throw the amount of shots Barkley threw vs Hearns in their rematch or the Duran fight plus Minter couldn`t fight on the inside as clever as the 39 year old Duran did and look how much better Duran was vs Hagler compared to Minter who was awful in losing his title to Marvin.
