I am from tenerife from The north of the Island, the south is the biggest part for the tourism. Canarias got great typical food like papas con gofio y mojo canario, carne de cabra, chuletón de buey, chorizo de teror, the best semi-cured cheeses of the world are from fuerteventura, great homemade desserts like bienmesabe, frangollo, principe alberto, and the great quesadilla from the el hierro. If you go to eat in the places of the tourism the food is worse and more expensive, the problem is that out of the tourism zone few people in the guachinches(typical canary restaurants) will understand your idiom

Puerto de la cruz is in my Island. I recommend to you to visit fuerteventura, overall a bit boring but it has one of the best beaches in the planet
    white sand and crystalline water

I went to Tenerife and Fuerteventura....with the family when our daughters were little kids so we didn't venture out much past the resorts. I'm always amazed that Brit and German tourists when on holiday insist upon eating their own food in lousy restaurants instead of eating some local foods.

I've been all over Spain and love Spanish food. Some of the best pork and beef I've ever eaten.

I suppose there is no way to beat beans on toast or bangers and mash. Or marmite on a cracker.

(My English son-in-law is learning about Tex-Mex food now that they've moved to Austin. Dude will probably gain 21 pound {stone and a half} fairly quickly).
