Are there any fighters in history you think could beat a prime Roy Jones?

Sam Langford would probably have killed him.

Boxing is a matchup of styles so of course any fighter is capable of being beaten. I do think a guy like Ward or Calzaghe would give RJJ trouble.

At LHW there are multiple guys I would expect to beat him and be favored over him. Charles, Spinks, Tunney, Moore etc.

At SMW there is probably no one (outside of those who fought at that weight prior to the creation of a division for 168) who would be favored over Roy...I would call Hopkins a live dog (both were green and pre-prime when they fought), I don’t think Calzaghe would but he is worthy of consideration. I have personally always liked Chris Eubanks chances and think he would, but I know I am alone or in the minority...

RJJ should be favored at 168 and a live dog to the top 10 or do ATG LHW’s

IMO if Mike McCallum was in his prime when he fought RJJ he very well could have won.

You can't be serious? Saunders eeked a decision against an inexperienced Eubank Jr who gave away the first six rounds. The overreaction to Saunders clowning a wild swinging turd of a boxer in Lemieux ridiculous.

    Agree about VADA.

    Savage punchers.

    Roy had no chin, none.

Nigel Benn if everything was right for him
Peak condition and on the back foot Once Roy thinks he has it in the bag a prime Benn would be dangerous

Bob Foster, Ezzard Charles, Hearns (possibly), Mcclellan, M. Spinks

Hope you guys see the pattern of physical dimensions.

No lie! They dont belong in the same ring, much less the same sentence, and even much less the same breath. A legend vs a decent world class level.

obviously theres several historically, so i will just cover roys contemporaries -

at mw, I am not sure.

at smw, just ward, pretty much noone else has a fair chance. I dread to think of the mess he would cause the best guys like froch, let alone lessers like calzaghe bute ottke and the others.

at lhw mike mccallum showed enough to prove he could edge roy out when prime.

definitely he beats 40 year old roy, thats what the evidence tells us.

along with 40 year old sugar ray leonard, 40 year old hearns, 40 year old hagler.

But we have ZERO evidence for calzaghe standing up to a prime HOFer, ATG or even elite.

SO we MUST, if we are being fair minded and not biased, say we dont have evidence to make the claim, same as we cant claim sven ottke beats roy based on his undefeated record.
