Have there ever been another fighter who retires after throwing low blows? Wards last punch in boxing was low blow and thats how his legacy will be remembered.
Let's say his last punch was.... What about the jabs landing at will on Kovalev throughtout the round? Which then led the left hooks putting Kovalev off balance? Followed by the one two down the pipe which had Kovalev doing a funny dance? Again, followed by legal body shots which had Kovalev wincing and gritting his teeth in pain? Body shot, left hook....body shot, left hook..... Kovalev on the ropes, 1 body shot, Kovalev keels over..... Body shot, body shot, Kovalev screams in pain and can't defend himself. But yeah, let's just put it down do a 'low blow'.
To be fair, I thought ONLY the last punch was low. The rest were borderline. I dont think the fight should have been stopped on the last low punch. However--with that I also believe at that point Ward had taken over the fight and Kov was done. While the stoppage was in my opinion on an illegal punch, it did save Kov from more punishment. I have been watching boxing long enough to know that Kov was done. I believe Ward broke him in that last round. Thats hard for me to admit--I believe Kov won the first fight and I am no fan at all of Wards.
Read the rules of boxing. Any punch that lands below the navel is deemed LOW & therefore a FOUL !! Ward knows this, so does Tony Weekes. I counted at least 10 blatant low shots BEFORE the fatal blatant low blows. All I can think of is Weekes navel must be in a very strange position or he blatantly ignored the low blows & robbed Kovalev. I habe no respect fpr Ward or Weeks after witnessing that
10 low shots? Why didn't Kov complain about these then? Cmon man, lightning doesn't strike twice.....Kovalev, the 'bully', was bullied by Ward.
Kov DID complain EVERY time Weekes ignored him. Ward knew he had carte blanche to do as he wished & he took full advantage. What I'd have done in Kpv's position was teed off on Ward's testes in retaliation let him know what lt felt like If course Kov would have been immediately DQ'd but he was being rpbbed anyway
Stop. Kov was desperately looking at Weeks for help, even when Andre hit him with 2 body shots which were 100% clean. Go and see for yourself. That fight was getting stopped, because Weeks had seen enough. There was nothing coming back. It's unfortunate that the very last blow was low, but the others weren't. That fight wasn't stopped on a foul alone. It was stopped because Kovalev had been physically and mentally beaten. Kov himself never complained at the time. His tank was empty.
