Yeah, interesting is the right word... But that list kind of generated its own gravity. Here's a list of the guys in that top fifty that Tunney beat at the weight: Battling Levinsky, Jim Delaney, Harry Greb. Nice right? Now the same exercise for Greb: Billy Miske, Jimmy Slattery, Battling Levinsky, Kid Norfolk, Jack Dillon, Maxie Rosenbloom, Jim Delaney, Tommy Gibbons, Tommy Loughran, Gene Tunney. And only the first three here were outside the top twenty. It's absolutely insane; I don't think there's been anything like it in boxing, ever...maybe. Greb can only be argued 1,2 or 3 IMO. Well, apart from head to head, where anywhere from #1 to totally excluded is OK. Always freaks me out a bit that Greb beat Rosenbloom. That's sinister. What's he doing fighting a Joe Louis contender?
Rosenbloom has lhvy wins over J H Lewis x 2,Slattery x 3,Godwin,Walker,Lomskix3 ,Braddock, yet no one ,including me, has him in their top ten. Why is that?
Gregory not mentioned? Haven't read all the posts; maybe because of his quirkiness. He'd give 'em all hell if his head had been on straight! No LH would EVER have stopped him. IMHO he was superior to Spinks. An ATG if he hadn't pulled all of his crapola. As an aside, find some old John Garfield posts touting Eddie's magic from his amateur days forward. My $0.02
H2h. I think that michael moorer would absolutely destroy jones aT 175. 2 men of different size here..forget the weight,it is a smw vs a cruiser
